Pender County Schools CTE Department had an incredible week of professional learning at the annual NC CTE Summer Conference!
During the conference, our PCS CTE team excelled in various leadership roles and received numerous recognitions for their accomplishments in CTE. We are excited to bring the best practices and instructional insights gained from the conference back to Pender County Schools.
Conference Highlights:
Miranda Wells was honored as a finalist for the NCCAT CTE Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year.
Dominique Bates was sworn in as the NCACTE Administrator Division Vice President.
Denise Pollock was sworn in as Vice President of the NCACTE-CIMC Division.
Clara Smith, a student, represented us as the Postsecondary Collegiate Vice President of NC HOSA.
Michele Simmons was recognized for completing the 2023-2024 school year as the CDC Champion for the Southeast Region of NC and presented several seminars, including CDC Collaboration Stations and Middle School CDC best practices sessions.
Denise Pollock presented on our Job Shadow Day Process and how to leverage community and parent support.
Siobhan Fargo and Mark Munroe presented on our SHED and VOLT competition through our partnership with NC Connect for Success.
We are eager to implement the knowledge and skills we’ve gained to continue enhancing the educational experience in Pender County.

Taylor Pollock is interning with Pender County CTE this summer, collaborating with Heide Trask to set up their school-based enterprise. She also assists CTE teachers in updating classroom presentations, playing a crucial role in preparing for the 2024-2025 school year.
THS Football is excited to have Mack Woest working with them. She is taking photos and assisting with their social media. After high school, Mack wants to pursue a career in graphic design focusing on sports media management. Thank you THS Football for hosting a student intern!
