This week we're celebrating Read Across America Week! 📚✨ This special week is all about inspiring a love of books and building a community of lifelong readers. Today we wore our SCE shirts because Sea Turtles are strong readers. We also enjoyed many special guest readers who shared wonderful stories with us. 💗
Guess who loved EOG prep yesterday? 🙋♀️🙋♂️ Ms. Collin’s 5th graders! These mathematicians used Plickers to review and it was a hit! Students loved watching their cards get scanned, seeing the live percentage correct, and checking which answer choices classmates picked. The instant feedback turned review into a game and sparked great conversations about strategies. 🎯📊✨

During small group, first graders from Ms. Brunjes' first grade class practiced building complete sentences to strengthen their reading and writing skills. Students use decodable words, sight words, and vocabulary from the text to create and expand sentences. Then they practiced reading sentences aloud, stretching them with describing words, and checking for capital letters and ending punctuation.
Mrs. Montaruli’s Kindergarten class is wrapping up a module on America Then and Now. Students learned about how school, home, transportation, and communication have changed over time. To end the module students created posters showing details of changes in America and presented it in class.

In STEAM class this week K-3 classes engineered their own ice rinks, created an athlete, and experimented with how magnets 🧲 can move objects based on winter Olympic sports on ice. The kids loved watching their figure skaters, hockey players, and speed skaters move on their ice rinks and challenge pathways.

This week in Wit & Wisdom, Ms. Gruber's 3rd grade class read The Keeping Quilt and explored the beautiful traditions in the story. Students learned about challah bread, babushkas, and wedding huppas-and even got to taste challah and see a real babushka up close! They also created their own classroom quilt with pieces that represent their special class community. Such a meaningful and memorable week of learning!
