✨Meet Tripp! Today's CIS #StudentSpotlight shines on this special Surf City Second grade student. ✨ When he's not in school he likes watching EYstreem and Crafty play Minecraft or building Legos. (Tripp is a Lego master.) He sees himself being a professional gamer someday like his uncle. 🎮 If you ask Tripp, recess is the best part of the school day and his friends Bodie, Beau and Adler help him feel supported at school. Tripp likes working with his CIS Student Support Specialist at Surf City Elementary School, Ms. Emily Little. He describes her as nice, "because she's the teacher who calms you down." "I learned stuff at lunch bunch with my friends. We talk about our feelings and how to be calm," said Tripp. "I like doing the fun activities like watching fun videos and hanging out with my friends." "Tripp has been such a joy to work with over the past two years! He’s super silly, a hard worker, and has the biggest heart. When he first came to me as a first grader, he sometimes felt guilty for having big emotions, but over time he’s learned to understand and manage those feelings in healthy ways, recognizing that emotions aren’t bad, they’re just part of being human," said CIS Student Support Specialist Emily Little. Way to go, Tripp!! Wonderful work! ✨

💙 Meet Jessie Campbell, school psychologist for Surf City Elementary and Surf City Middle!

With 21 years of experience, including five in PCS, Jessie is passionate about advocating for students’ rights and ensuring every child has meaningful participation in their education.

She loves collaborating with staff, parents, and students to build on strengths and support growth, and reminds us that school psychologists make the biggest impact when they can be involved early in the intervention process.

Originally from Virginia, Jessie enjoys outdoor activities, DIY projects, and time with her husband of 25 years and their three sons. A lifelong runner, she’s even competed in marathons and triathlons!

✨ “The heart of a school psychologist is one of resiliency, compassion, and dedication for students and the adults that support them.”

Today Ms. Pleasants' PreK class began a new study — all about bread! 🍞 To kick things off, our class made bread right in a crockpot. Students observed the ingredients, watched the changes as the bread baked, and of course, enjoyed tasting it with some butter afterward! This hands-on experience helped them to start thinking about where bread comes from and how it’s made.
