Our 4th graders are putting science into action! 🌍 In science class, students have been learning how humans can protect themselves during earthquakes. This week, they took that knowledge and designed model structures built to withstand shaking. Through hands-on learning, they explored how smart design can minimize damage and keep people safe!

✨ WIN: What I Need in Action! ✨ This year, we launched our WIN (What I Need) block across every grade level, giving teachers the flexibility to group students based on multiple data sources and truly target instruction to meet each learner’s needs. Today, our 4th graders were hard at work during WIN, focusing on finding strong supporting evidence in the text to answer questions. By working in flexible groups, students are getting exactly what they need—right when they need it—to grow as confident, capable readers. We love seeing purposeful instruction and student engagement in action! 📖✏️

Second grade is diving deep into learning through Wit & Wisdom! 📚 Students began their lesson by exploring a question cube—asking who, what, when, where, and how to spark curiosity and build background knowledge. Today, they took the learning even further by listening to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s actual speech. What a powerful way to connect questions, text, and history! ✨

💙TEACHER TUESDAY📚

Ms. Bailey Umbaugh is an ML (Multilingual Learner) teacher who supports students and staff across STE, TAE, NTE, TMS, and THS. She is in her 9th year of teaching and is a consistent support for ML students and families throughout the district.

Ms. Umbaugh builds strong relationships with students and families so they feel comfortable reaching out when they need help. She also serves as a resource for teachers and administrators in multiple buildings, helping staff think through how to best support students and respond when needs come up.

What stands out most about Ms. Umbaugh is her flexibility. With a schedule that spans five schools, she adjusts quickly and stays focused on what students need. During annual testing, staff in each building appreciate having her there to help things run smoothly.

Ms. Umbaugh is also known for being willing to step in wherever she’s needed and for keeping a positive attitude while doing it. Her sense of humor and steady presence help students, families, and staff feel supported.

Thank you, Ms. Umbaugh, for the work you do each day to support our ML students and school teams. 💛

Our kindergarteners brought history to life during their America Has Changed Over Time unit! After seeing an illustration in their Wit & Wisdom book, students wondered what it was like to shell peas long ago—so they gave it a try themselves. Their conclusion? “It sure was a lot of work for just a few peas!” Experiences like this help our youngest learners see how inventions have made everyday life easier over time. 🌱✨
