🌟 Exciting News from WonderWorks – 2026 ART-OLINA Winners! 🇺🇸

WonderWorks Myrtle Beach, known as the iconic Upside-Down Building at Broadway at the Beach is proud to announce the 2026 ART-OLINA: Youth Art Gallery of the Carolinas, featuring outstanding student artwork from across North and South Carolina. This special gallery highlights the creativity of K–12 students selected from entries submitted throughout both states.

🎨 2026 Contest Theme: America the Beautiful 🎨
July 4, 2026, marks 250 years of American independence, and young artists were invited to celebrate this historic milestone through art. The theme encouraged students to showcase what they love most about America and its history. Whether that be innovation, National Parks, the Stars and Stripes, achievements in human spaceflight, or ideas stretching from sea to shining sea.

Out of 10 works selected for the 2026 ART-OLINA gallery, an incredible 4 pieces came from Surf City Middle School, a true testament to the talent and creativity of our students.

These students’ artworks will be featured in the ART-OLINA gallery at WonderWorks for a year-long showcase. Additionally, each winning artist will receive 4 complimentary tickets to WonderWorks so they can visit the attraction and see their masterpieces on display.

Reward day fun! Students made snow in hopes of a real snowfall soon.

Surf City 8th graders completed initial plans for high school as part of the NC Career Development Plan legislation. THS counselors, the THS and middle school career development coordinator, the SCMS counselor, and social studies teachers collaborated to bring this activity to students. Students reviewed high school electives and core course options in order to make a targeted plan before 9th-grade registration, which will take place in late January. They stored their plans in a THS Google Classroom that will roll up with them. If you have an SCM 8th grader, ask them to show you their plan!

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS to 8th Grader Harry Roy! 🎉
This weekend, Eastern NC Scholastic Art Award recipients were announced, and one Surf City Middle School student earned an award this year. A first in SCM history!
Students may submit individual artworks to be scored and can receive Gold Key, Silver Key, or Honorable Mention awards. Gold Key and Silver Key winners will have their artwork displayed at ECU in February, and Gold Key winners are automatically entered into the National Scholastic competition.
Eight grader Harry Roy earned a Gold Key in the 2026 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for his drawing “Trout ’n About.” He submitted this artwork as an extra project, taking the initiative to enter a piece he had previously completed. Talk about dedication and confidence!
Harry’s achievement is especially impressive because he was judged against students as old as 12th grade and still earned the highest honor.

They called him Mr. Lawless in college, but Mr. Law still has it. Officer Wyke and Coach Pielech ended up in the penalty box.

Band students performed all around the school today, and they were AMAZING!

Amazing Food Trucks are completed in 8th Grade Business and Entrepreneurship. Students had to create a business plan on paper, a menu, and a model Food Truck for their final project. They did amazing!
