Seventh graders at Surf City Middle School are discovering more about themselves and their futures using NCcareers.org. Through interactive tools, students are identifying their interests and connecting them to potential careers, high school electives, and future opportunities.
This important step in the NC Career Development Plan helps students begin thinking about their goals and the pathways to achieve them. A big thank you to SCMS counselor Ms. Smith and seventh-grade social studies teachers Ms. Donahue, Mr. Scott, and Mr. Hinman for helping facilitate this experience.
Be sure to ask your student about their interests—you might be surprised by what they discover! ✨

A big congratulations to the students from Cape Fear Middle, Surf City Middle, Heide Trask High, Pender High, and Topsail High who participated in Honor Band at UNC Pembroke this past weekend.
Students from across the state performed on Saturday at the Givens Performing Arts Center after spending just one day working with guest clinicians to prepare the concert. That is no small task, and our students did an outstanding job. We are proud to see them recognized for their talent and commitment.

Mrs. Clarke serves as our 7th Grade Exceptional Students Teacher and has quickly made a lasting impact on our school community. Her dedication to her students is evident in everything she does—from her strong organization and preparation to the intentional way she supports each learner’s individual needs.
She creates a caring and structured environment where students feel valued, supported, and encouraged to grow. Mrs. Clarke is deeply committed to ensuring all students have access to success, and she consistently goes above and beyond to provide the academic and emotional support they need.
Her positive influence reaches far beyond the classroom, as she builds meaningful relationships and helps students gain confidence in themselves every day. We are grateful for her passion, her heart for students, and the difference she is making at SCM.
Congratulations, Mrs. Clarke! 🦈💙
