Here is this week's newsletter. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XupUqntehviy9pBi2AhbT3OW2h_g5jBN/view?usp=sharing Pender County Schools has partnered with researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill to study the impacts of student technology use on mental health and academic outcomes. The information gathered will help guide our school’s digital literacy supports, evaluate the effectiveness of current policies, and inform future state-level decisions about technology use in schools.
To move forward, we need every parent/guardian to complete the consent form—whether you choose to grant or deny consent. Your participation is essential.
🔗 Please complete the Consent Form now! https://unc.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7O65QO7lLpejr70
You will receive a $5 gift card for completing the form.
Be sure to continue through each page until you see the message “Your response has been recorded.”
As an added incentive for our school community, Surf City Middle School will receive $1,000 if 70% or more of our forms are returned—regardless of parents’ consent choice.
For more information about the study, please visit the UNC project website or contact the research team directly:

With 21 years of experience, including five in PCS, Jessie is passionate about advocating for students’ rights and ensuring every child has meaningful participation in their education.
She loves collaborating with staff, parents, and students to build on strengths and support growth, and reminds us that school psychologists make the biggest impact when they can be involved early in the intervention process.
Originally from Virginia, Jessie enjoys outdoor activities, DIY projects, and time with her husband of 25 years and their three sons. A lifelong runner, she’s even competed in marathons and triathlons!
✨ “The heart of a school psychologist is one of resiliency, compassion, and dedication for students and the adults that support them.”

As I sit here trying to put this into words… I honestly don’t think there’s a perfect word that even touches who Officer Wyke is.
When I say he goes ABOVE + BEYOND — that is an understatement.
If he’s not on campus, he’s out coaching football.
If he’s not coaching, he’s on beach patrol — watching over the very same kids he protects at school — because he knows that’s where “his kids” are hanging out. He shows up everywhere. He shows up because he CARES.
He knows students by name.
He knows what they’re involved in outside of school — because he takes time to ask. He genuinely wants to know them — not just keep them safe.
I worked in law enforcement myself — and I have never, ever seen a school resource officer pour into a school community like this man does. Not even close.
Surf City Middle School.
Surf City Middle School Football.
This entire town.
We are lucky. WE ARE SO LUCKY.
Kids don’t look up to him because they’re supposed to. They look up to him because they WANT to.
He earns that — daily — and he does it with a smile.
Hats off to you, Officer Wyke.
You are appreciated.
You are respected.
You are LOVED. 💙🦈
Thank you for all you do for our kids and our community.

Her students know they can count on her for kindness and encouragement, and her colleagues appreciate the energy and care she brings to the classroom.
💙☀️ Thank you, Ms. Buckley, for the light you bring to Surf City Middle and for always putting students first.
