
🎶 PCS Bands Shine at NCBA Music Performance Adjudication! 🎶
Our talented Pender County Schools band students recently showcased their hard work and musical excellence at the NCBA Music Performance Adjudication at the Minnie Evans Arts Center! This state-sanctioned event, held during Music in Our Schools Month, brought incredible performances from our schools.

🎼 Topsail Middle School – Excellent
🎼 Surf City Middle School – Excellent
🎼 Burgaw Middle School – Participated for comments only and received amazing feedback! First time attending in 10 years!
🎼 Heide Trask High School – Excellent
ALL of our ensembles earned Excellent or Superior ratings – the highest possible! 🎷🎺🎵 We are so proud of these dedicated students and their directors for representing PCS with outstanding musicianship.

Five talented Pender County Schools students participated in the UNCP Honor Band this past weekend! Representing three of our schools, these students joined musicians from 100 different schools for a full day of rehearsals and an incredible performance.

Congrats to Hazel Martin for participating in the UNCP Honor Band this past Saturday! Hazel played four pieces all learned in a single day with other middle students from various other schools in Southeast North Carolina. Great job Hazel on representing the arts at SCMS!

As part of Music In Our Schools Month, we are featuring 7th grader Scarlett Ferguson. Scarlett plays the saxophone and has auditioned for the NCBA All-District clinic while in Surf City Middle. Scarlett has also participated in the UNCG Summer Camp which takes place in Greensboro on the campus of UNCG. Congratulations on all that you’ve accomplished!


Mrs. Hill’s science class went old school last week. Since there was no internet we used old fashioned books to do research on animals in order to design a new hybrid organism. Students had to find animals that were of the same family group and similar habitats and draw and describe their new hybrid organisms.

Congratulations to the 8th grade band students on a FANTASTIC performance today at Ashley High School for the NCBA Music Performance Adjudication! The students received a rating of “Excellent” for their performance today and look forward to sharing their growth at their next concert on May 8th!

Today, for Youth Art Month we’re celebrating Evelyn Suh, an 8th grader who has been dedicated to the arts throughout middle school—taking Art in grades 6, 7, and 8, and choosing Advanced Art to pursue her passion all year long!
✨ Evelyn's Accomplishments Include:
✅ Placing in the Azalea Festival Arts Contest
✅ Placing in the Spring Fest T-shirts Contest
✅ Being a finalist for the cover of the school yearbook all three years
✅ WonderWorks Artist – Her artwork is currently on display at WonderWorks in Myrtle Beach, where she was selected as one of only 10 artists from North and South Carolina!
But Evelyn’s talents don’t stop at visual art—she’s also an accomplished clarinet player, performing in the school band for the past three years.

After competing in the regional NCDOT Bridge Building Competition last week, our group advanced to the state finals to be held in Raleigh. Go Sharks!
