Season 2 of Survivor Surf City Middle is in the books! 6th and 7th graders competed in challenges, found hidden idols, strategized with fellow competitors, and generally worked hard to outplay, outwit, and outlast everyone else to become the sole Survivor. Congratulations to Caroline (6th) and Max (7th) for their wins in 2 tough final 3 fields. Great job to all of the competitors!!

Mrs. Hill’s 7th grade science classes are doing frog dissections as they compare and contrast the frog’s anatomy to human anatomy as we wrap up our unit human body systems. It is so much fun to see them really get into this hands on activity.

On Thursday Feb 12, SCMC took part in "No One Eats Alone Day" at lunch to build new connections and raise awareness to combat social isolation. Students participated in a "Connect the Dots" mural in which they identified their unique characteristics and interests while comparing how similar they are to their classmates.

We tested the Monty Hall problem today. You choose which cup you think has the coin, and then a cup that does not have the coin is lifted. The question is then do you want to switch your original choice to the other remaining cup? (Our older Shark fans will remember this from the game show Let's Make a Deal.) The correct answer is switching gives you a 66% chance of having the coin...always switch. We did it 100 times , and our results were exactly that! Changing was the right choice 66 times and the wrong choice 34 times.

Surf City Middle was thrilled to welcome members of Kiwanis of Topsail Island Area and our local government this morning! They stopped by to help 8th graders practice for their Pender Early College HS interviews and prepare them for future opportunities. More snow fun!
3 months ago, Surf City Middle

I hope everyone has enjoyed today’s snow day and had the opportunity to rest, have fun, and make some memories in the snow. Due to current conditions, Surf City Middle School will operate on a virtual learning day on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Teachers will post assignments and learning activities for students to complete remotely. Please note that attendance on the virtual day is tied to student work completion, so it is important that students log in, complete their assignments, and participate as directed by their teachers.
We will continue to monitor road conditions and weather updates. More information regarding the remainder of the week will be shared tomorrow afternoon once conditions have been reassessed.
With the extra time at home, this is also a great opportunity for students to curl up with a good book and record their reading minutes for the district reading challenge. Every minute counts!
