👏 Congratulations to our PCS band students and directors on a strong showing at Music Performance Adjudication this year.

Five PCS schools with band programs participated in MPA, and the results reflect a lot of time, practice, and commitment from both students and staff.

🎶 Cape Fear Middle School Band — first time attending in 7 years
🎶 Topsail Middle School Band — Excellent
🎶 Surf City Middle School Band — Excellent
🎶 Heide Trask High School Symphonic Band — Superior
🎶 Topsail High School Symphonic Band — Superior
🎶 Topsail High School Wind Ensemble — Superior

For those unfamiliar with MPA, the ratings are given to the performing group and are similar to academic scoring:
⭐ Superior = A / 5
⭐ Excellent = B / 4
⭐ Average = C / 3

Thank you to our band directors for the work they are doing each day to support students and grow music programs across PCS. 🎺🥁🎼

A big congratulations to the students from Cape Fear Middle, Surf City Middle, Heide Trask High, Pender High, and Topsail High who participated in Honor Band at UNC Pembroke this past weekend.

Students from across the state performed on Saturday at the Givens Performing Arts Center after spending just one day working with guest clinicians to prepare the concert. That is no small task, and our students did an outstanding job. We are proud to see them recognized for their talent and commitment.

Mrs. Clarke serves as our 7th Grade Exceptional Students Teacher and has quickly made a lasting impact on our school community. Her dedication to her students is evident in everything she does—from her strong organization and preparation to the intentional way she supports each learner’s individual needs.

She creates a caring and structured environment where students feel valued, supported, and encouraged to grow. Mrs. Clarke is deeply committed to ensuring all students have access to success, and she consistently goes above and beyond to provide the academic and emotional support they need.

Her positive influence reaches far beyond the classroom, as she builds meaningful relationships and helps students gain confidence in themselves every day. We are grateful for her passion, her heart for students, and the difference she is making at SCM.

8th Grade Business and Entrepreneurship: Students are learning why we take notes in business, which includes the Cornell Note-taking strategy. Students received their EverFi Financial Literacy certificates and will now begin modules in Entrepreneurship. We had 41 students certify in EverFi Financial Literacy! Students have been learning about AI and workplace trends. They are reading an article and learning how to take Cornell notes for better class notes and for notetaking in the workplace.

7th Grade Career Explorations and Employment: Students have been simulating Job Shadowing Career Modules from Microburst. We have also been de-scrambling career occupations and researching what various careers entail.

6th Grade Keyboarding and Employment: Students worked on Microburst Job Shadowing modules to get ready for their opportunity next year to job shadow. Students continue to do warm-up cursive daily. Students have continued to learn about Google Office productivity, saving documents, naming documents, and uploading screenshots appropriately for assignments.

🦈🎨 Shark Artists Shine at the 2026 YMTS T-Shirt Design Contest! 🦃🎡

Congratulations to two incredible Shark artists for their turk’riffic success in the 2026 Youth Market Turkey Show T-Shirt Design Contest!

This statewide contest invited artists ages 5–18 to design bold, original T-shirts celebrating:
🦃 Turkeys & poultry
🎡 The North Carolina State Fair
🌾 Youth in agriculture
🌎 North Carolina pride & culture

🥈 2nd Place – Dahlia Kuchta (8th Grade)

Dahlia earned 2nd Place overall with her stunning and richly detailed design!

Her artwork features a beautifully colored turkey standing proudly on North Carolina’s state flower, the dogwood. The turkey wears a “State Winner” sash, symbolizing excellence in youth agriculture and competition. Bold lettering reading “NC State Fair 2026” completes the design, making it eye-catching and perfect for a T-shirt graphic.

🥉 3rd Place – Ethan Wagner (8th Grade)

Ethan’s bold and playful design earned him 3rd Place overall!

His cartoon-style turkey marches confidently across the design while proudly holding the North Carolina state flag. “North Carolina State Fair” appears in large, dynamic lettering above and below the character. Bright colors, strong outlines, and expressive details made this design clear, energetic, and T-shirt ready — and it certainly captured the judges’ attention!

We are beyond proud of both artists' creativity, hard work, and artistic talent. Both represented our school and community with excellence!

Let’s give these Shark artists a huge round of applause! 👏👏

Elle spent time engaging with students as they prepared skits that demonstrated proper theatre etiquette. She gave the students insight on high school theatre and acknowledged the role that her middle school theatre classes played in preparing for high school theatre.
