As shared by the district, March 16th will be a remote learning day due to potentially severe weather. Please check ROOMS posts and messages from your child's teacher for activities and assignments for tomorrow. We will be flexible with the completion of assignments that are assigned for March 16th. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Good afternoon Sea Turtles! We continue every day to make sure our car line moves as efficiently and effectively as possible. More and more parents are attempting to park and walk students up across the cross walk. This practice is causing us to have to stop the traffic and line multiple times, causing the car line to be delayed. Some parents are even trying to just end their children across. Our awesome SRO stands at the cross walk daily to assist us. He reminded parents this morning of our policy and procedure. The only students allowed to park and walk up are students with an IEP needing hand to hand transfer. These few parents are aware of their rights. All other parents will be required to drop off in the car line. If you park and attempt to walk up prior to 7:55, you will be politely asked to get into the car line. It is not fair for some parents to be allowed to park and others are following all of the rules. The line runs very smoothly and we are completely finished by the tardy bell. There may be more cars in line, but they are middle school parents and students arriving after the tardy bell. My excellent staff members and I will continue to be there 7:20-7:55 daily to supervise and protect the safety of ALL of our SCE students. Thank you, always for your grace, patience and support! We continue to do our very best to start your children off with a smile and positive greeting daily- rain, sleet, wind and heat!

Bus 279 will have a sub driver and ride bus 290.
Bus 288 will have a sub driver, but still ride bus 288.

Mrs. Sandrik’s students worked hard this week to create their colorful Rainbows of Kindness! They have been learning what it means to be a good friend and how to show kindness through their thoughts, actions, and words.

Ms. Brevan, Ms. Montaruli's field experience teacher from UNCW and a wonderful EC IA from Pre-K taught her first lesson today in Kindergarten. Students learned about communication from the past and present! Students sorted images of items from the past and present and were able to tell about their favorite type of communication.

Unfortunately, Bus 288 and 279 are without drivers currently. We are trying to get some sub drivers. We will send an update once we here from transportation. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Bus 279 students are riding bus 307. The bus left our campus at 3:58 pm. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Teacher Tuesday: Ms. Chelsea D’Zurilla — Surf City Elementary

Ms. Chelsea D’Zurilla teaches K–2 EC at Surf City Elementary. She is known for her patient and caring approach with students. She takes time to build strong relationships and adjusts her instruction so each child can access learning in a way that works for them. Families and staff share that students feel safe and supported in her classroom.

Ms. D’Zurilla is attentive to the needs of her students, especially those who require additional support throughout the day. With a schedule that shifts as students come and go for services, she keeps instruction consistent and organized. She works closely with her Instructional Assistants to ensure centers and small-group activities run smoothly and with purpose.

One staff member shared that Ms. D’Zurilla handles challenging moments with calm and care. When a student becomes overwhelmed, she responds with steady reassurance and helps them regulate without drawing negative attention. She focuses on preserving student dignity while guiding them back to learning.
