Meet Ms. Thompson! She has joined us as our School Counselor. She will be learning the ropes from Mrs. Burdette until Mrs. Burdette retires November 1. We look forward to the great things Ms. Thompson will do as a Penderlea Hornet. Welcome, Ms. Thompson!

Pender County Schools will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow, 8/5/2024. We are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Debby. Student safety is our top priority. Any updates will be shared via email, our website, and social media. Stay safe! #OnePender

As you are planning your week, please remember to include our fall athlete parent meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th at 5:30pm!
If your child plans to tryout for football, softball, or cheer, you MUST attend to get all paperwork completed for their eligibility!
**Cheer will hold ONE tryout! Any interested athlete MUST tryout during the August tryouts. However, if your child wants to play softball and only cheer during basketball season, they may do so. (assuming they make the squad) Athletes may also choose to only cheer during football season and play basketball. (They still need to tryout now though) But, cheerleaders will not be allowed to play another sport in the same season that they are cheering.**

Our teachers thoroughly enjoy spending the last few minutes of the school day with students in the car rider line, ensuring each child is safely placed into their vehicle. Thank you to our dedicated staff for their unwavering commitment and care.

Even during indoor recess, Mrs. Brooks' students remained enthusiastic about using technology to enhance their learning. Mrs. Brooks provides her students with opportunities to work both individually and in groups, ensuring they remain engaged and eager to use technology for learning, even during indoor recess.

🔔 Don’t forget! There’s a vital discussion on "Cell Phone Safety" with Assistant District Attorney Jason Smith and Pender County Schools coming up. Discover effective strategies to safeguard your kids online. 📱👪 #OnePender

Good evening Penderlea Families,
This is Mr. Harris with some important information regarding the first week of school.
Thank you to everyone who came out to Open House on Thursday; it was truly a great turnout! It was wonderful to meet with everyone and share in the excitement of a new school year.
Tomorrow, July 15th, is the first day of school, and we are so excited to see all the students! Here are some important details to remember:
-Students will be let into the building at 7:20 AM, and the tardy bell will ring at 7:40 AM. Dismissal will be at 2:50 PM.
-No student is to be dropped off before 7:20 AM.
-Any student who arrives after 7:40 AM from the car rider line will require a parent to come into the building and sign them in.
-Please be patient with bus transportation in the morning and afternoon, as times may vary slightly as drivers get used to their routes. A good rule of thumb is to be at your stop at least 15 minutes before your assigned stop time, especially at the beginning of the year.
-I have attached a car line traffic patterns map to this message.
We are excited to announce that every student at Penderlea will receive free breakfast and lunch again this year. Additionally, the Mobile Dental Clinic will be on campus from July 15th to August 22nd. Please be on the lookout for more information to come home with your child.
Attention any parents of current Beta Members, the first meeting of the year will be Monday, July 22nd at 4:30pm in the library. This meeting is for students and parents. If you are unable to attend in-person please reach out to Mrs. Finn or Mrs. Kolb for a virtual link.
As stated during Open House, I ask for your patience and understanding as our teachers and office staff work with the district through the transition from Powerschool to Infinite Campus. Pender County Schools is one of only a handful of districts in the state that have started the changeover (which all districts will have to do next year), and Penderlea is the first school in the district to start, so this is new for everyone. This transition affects scheduling, grade input, software access, and more.
Families are a major part of every child's education, so as we begin this school year, I kindly ask the following from you as parents/guardians:
+Talk positively about school
+Try to understand the teacher’s intentions
+Encourage your child to make good choices
+Prioritize school and try to ensure they are at school every day
+Foster positive relationships between your child and their teacher
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school office at 910-285-2761 or email me at stephen_harris@pender.k12.nc.us
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead and making Penderlea the place to be!
