Penderlea middle school students completed another component of the NC Career Development Plan (CDP) this week. The NC CDP components are completed in 6-12th grade and help students define future careers and determine a path to get them to those careers through high school courses, the military, educational programs and on-the-job training. For more information, see the CDP section at the bottom of this newsletter. Watch for updates as other PCS schools complete components throughout the year.
Sixth graders discussed that skills can be learned and taught. Students talked about taking initiative to evaluate and get better at skills that align with future achievements. They listed three skills they already have and three skills that they need to work on.
Seventh grade students used an interest inventory to help them connect their interests to activities, courses and careers. They saved their results in a high school Google Classroom so they can build on the information as they continue their CDP over the next few years.

Ms. Meghan came and did a lesson last week with the kindergarten students on inclusion and different ways people communicate!
Kindergarten had a special visitor from Cripple Creek Dance Studio today! Jason Aycock, director at the studio, came to give them a hands on lesson in tapping to help deepen their understanding of Rap-a-Tap-Tap. Students enjoyed listening to the rhythm of his taps, relating it to Bojangles (the main character in the story), and even experiencing tap for themselves in the aisles of the cafeteria.

To celebrate the end of Module 1 in Wit & Wisdom, 2nd graders went on a quick "nature walk" around the building to collect some leaves for our activities today. Students have been learning about the change in seasons and how that affects plants and animals. They completed their EOM Task where they wrote about the different changes that happen in fall, so we also did a leaf rubbing collage and talked about the different leaves we have collected.
