Mental Health Matters!!
That's why in the music room at the beginning of class we do a mindfulness activity. Mindfulness meditation, at its simplest, is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment. Students come up in front of class and play the Tibetan singing bowl. Everyone participates in a breathing exercise to make ourselves aware of our surroundings before instruction begins. Not only does the fine arts give an avenue for self expression, but also a place where students social and emotional learning is key. Take a look at this kindergarten student eager and excited to play the singing bowl!

We are kicking off our One Book One School this week with a 5 Day Kindness Challenge. Throw kindness around like confetti!

It's not too late to set up you child's ewallet account! Our Book Fair begins tomorrow!

Performing Arts and Visual Arts are so important for everyone. There is a heap of incontestable research showing that an education rich in music and art improves students' cognitive function and academic performance. Take a look at this 1st Grader who is excited to play this tenor xylophone!

The Pender High School Beta Club will be hosting a Daddy/Daughter Dance for ages 0-8th Grade on Saturday, April 9th. Funds raised will go towards our trip to Nashville, TN where we will be attending and competing at the National Conference in 3 Individual and 4 team events! Thank you for your support!

March Madness... but make it art!
Check out these awesome 4th graders in Ms. Morley's class presenting their artist research projects. Each student researched and put together a presentation for their artist. Then the class is voting to find out who the favorite artist for each class will be!

Maybe it is just loud noise or a way to learn about music and STEAM. Music and the visual arts stimulate the brain, and with its varied sounds and lyrics, students are exposed to a large amount of vocabulary in a short amount of time. This Fine Arts Month, take a moment to find a creative outlet to express yourself.
