Congratulations to Mr. Luke Smith, Topsail High Public Safety Teacher. He has received one of the highest recognition in CTE for Pender County Schools, the Ronney Jones Achievement Award. Mr. Smith has exceeded every challenge/goal given to him. He keeps his students engaged in the classroom, bringing in incredible guest speakers and taking students on field trips for additional hands on learning. Because of his hard work Topsail Highs Public Safety program has grown and we are excited to be offering additional Public Safety course in the pathway.

PCS has been made aware of a damaged fiber cable which is affecting internet and phone service at all Topsail and Surf City schools. Four County Electric is currently investigating the issue to determine the location of the cut.

Johnna Brigman, rising seniors has been working hard completing a 120-hour internship with Dance Express Performing Art. She has played a vital part in the success of their summer camps and assisting in summer competition classes. Johnna wants to go to school to be a kindergarten teacher upon graduation. Thank you Dance Express for supporting our summer internship program!
Juliet Timmons rising senior, has been spending part of her summer completing an internship with Topsail Island Kiwanis Club. They are working on building a community garden to provide fresh produce to Share the Table. Juliet has been spending her time researching grants, assisting in running their social media and helping prepare the land for the garden. Topsail Island Kiwanis is a huge supporter of our school and has taken on interns over the last year. They have helped fund field trips and purchase supplies needed for students in need. Share the Table is a local food bank that provides back packs of food for our students in need and keeps our snack pantry stocked at the High School. Please follow both organizations on social media to stay up to date on all the great things going on in our community and to get information on how you can help.
Through a partnership with the Pender County Health Department, a free immunization clinic will be held in the auxiliary gym at Heide Trask High School.
The free clinic will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 8 am until noon.
While this clinic is for middle and high school students who need the T-DAO and meningitis vaccination, remember, other vaccinations are required by the state. Plan ahead with your doctor's office or clinic to ensure your child is up to date on their immunizations ahead of the 2023-2024 school year.

Some of our CTE staff are spending this week in Winston Salem for the 2023 CTE Summer conference. Our staff are working on professional development, completing the new teacher academy and learning updates to curriculum for the upcoming school year!
Noah Witkowski, rising junior has been working hard this summer interning with Sessions Auto Mechanics. He has just completed his 120 hours and is working on finishing his final assignments. Noah took a short break on completing his hours to hike at Philmont Ranch in New Mexico and will be heading off shortly to represent the United States at the 2023 World Jamboree in South Korea. Mr. Tom Sessions, owner of Sessions Auto, has a wealth of knowledge in mechanics and is sought after by Viper owners around the United State. He has been an active supporter of Topsail High School students and programs for years. Thank you for sharing your shop and knowledge with our students!
