For our first PCS Volunteer Spotlight, we’re recognizing Sara Cotten, whose time, energy and creativity make a difference throughout her school community! 💙💛
From supporting classrooms and decorating bulletin boards to leading the PTA, organizing fundraisers and helping keep families connected, Ms. Cotten is always finding ways to support students and staff. She also makes a point to encourage teachers, whether that means providing supplies, sharing a special treat or simply helping make their day a little brighter.
One example of Ms. Cotten’s impact came during the school’s Boosterthon fundraiser. She kept students, staff and families engaged with daily updates, prizes and creative schoolwide incentives, including administrators kissing farm animals 🐷 and a staff inflatable race! 🏃♀️ The activities were fun, but behind them were countless hours of planning and coordination that helped bring the entire school community together.
Much of Ms. Cotten’s work happens behind the scenes, but its impact can be seen and felt throughout the school.

On September 11, 2001, thousands of lives were lost, families were forever changed, and first responders answered an unimaginable call.
Today, Pender County Schools pauses to remember those who died, honor those who served and sacrificed in the years that followed, and recognize the families and communities who continue to carry the impact of that day.
For our students, September 11 is history. It is our responsibility to help them understand why we remember.

Our fourth-grade mathematicians put their place value and rounding skills to the test with a digital escape room! Students had to think carefully, solve challenging problems, and use what they’ve learned to crack the codes and make their escape. 🧠💻
Problem-solving, perseverance, collaboration, and mathematical thinking were everywhere along the way. Nothing like a little mystery and friendly competition to make math even more exciting!

The Sept. 22 deadline is quickly approaching for required health forms and immunizations.
📌 Incoming Kindergarten students and students who enrolled from out of state must provide their school nurse with:
• A completed NC Health Assessment Form from within the past calendar year
• A copy of their updated immunization record
💉 All 7th and 12th grade students also have required immunizations that must be completed by Sept. 22.

Please contact your school nurse with any questions or to make sure your student’s records are complete.
⚠️ The Sept. 22 deadline is established by North Carolina state law, and the school district cannot make exceptions.

This Friday, Topsail Annandale will come together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
We invite all of our students, staff, and families to wear red, white, and blue as we remember and honor the lives that were lost and the many heroes who served and sacrificed that day.
We will also observe a moment of silence in remembrance of all those who lost their lives.
