Good afternoon Shark Families! We are excited to head into week two of the school year. Don't forget that school is closed tomorrow, September 1, 2025, in observance of Labor Day. Please check out this week's Shark Bites with important information for the upcoming school week. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_jPSEERTYT89jEHlYiPnhbbvuuUA_DMb/view?usp=drive_link--Mrs. Hall

Thank you to the Walmart Neighborhood Market Surf City for thinking of our staff and ending our week with some delicious donuts! It was a greatly appreciated treat. We also used some of the extras to treat some students who have been stupendous Sharks this week!

Sharks are enjoying our early mornings! The real question is can we actually complete the 1000 piece Lego mini figure heads puzzle by the end of the year?? That one is tough!
From the PTA....

Students in Mr. Sandrik’s class collaborating to piece together America’s “birth certificate,” the Walseemüller map (1507)

Yesterday in Mrs. Dapper’s class, students practiced teamwork by putting together a puzzle made up of pieces that represent each of them. A fun way to show how every student is an important part of our classroom community!

Good evening Surf City Sharks. Bus 322 will be approximately two hours late tomorrow morning. If you can find alternate transportation for you child, it will be greatly appreciated. We are sorry for this inconvenience.
Overheard today....
"Mrs. Roland is ecstatic. She's a happy teacher, and she keeps kids interested."
It's going to be a great year!

🚍 We know the first day of the three-tier schedule brought some challenges, while we continue to work to make improvements there is a free tool that can be helpful for families - the Here Comes the Bus app.
With this free app, parents can:
✅ See their child’s bus location on a map
✅ Get alerts when the bus is near your stop or school
✅ Gain peace of mind with notifications when the bus arrives in your area
The good news is that traffic flow improved by 30 minutes in some areas after adjustments from day one. While we continue to make changes, the Here Comes the Bus app can provide extra confidence and convenience for families.

We were so excited to see our students last night, and were so busy catching up with everyone, that we forgot to snap some photos! If you got a couple of great photos, please email them to mary_tobin@pender.k12.nc.us. We'd love to share them!
🎉🍦 Congratulations to Airlie Sawyer, a rising 7th grader at Surf City Middle, for her winning ice cream design in the Scoops Microcreamery contest!
At the end of last school year, Airlie hand-drew her dream flavor and it’s now becoming a reality:
🍌 Banana Delight 🍌
Banana ice cream swirled with caramel & chocolate and sprinkled with almond chips!
Ariel will join the Scoops Microcreamery chefs to help create her flavor, and the sweetest part 💙 a portion of every scoop sold will be donated to the Down Syndrome Network of Onslow County.
Way to go, Airlie, and thank you to all of our students who entered! 👏 https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BNND51cYp/?mibextid=wwXIfr

📢 North Carolina law now requires all public schools to show safety education videos to students in grades 6–12 within the first five days of the school year.
🛡️ As part of the Protecting Our Students Act (S.L. 2023-128), these age-appropriate videos help students recognize and report signs of abuse, neglect, or unsafe situations and emphasize that reporting is always confidential.
🎥 Pender County Schools is committed to complying with this mandate and making sure students know how to stay safe and seek help if needed. Look for information from your school in your email or sent home with your student once classes begin.
