3rd grade finished out their year of science with some Owl Pellet dissection.

Surf City Middle School is very lucky to get these awesome 5th graders next year. While we will miss you, we know you're in good hands and are only a short walk away. You got this 5th grade!

5th grade Moving Up Practice

Wednesday Edition: Exploration and forest/river scenes in Kindergarten and some force and & motion activities in 4th grade.

4th & 5th grade had some fun this morning with two of their favorite games, Dodge Ball and Tug-o-War. Great time had by all.

Mrs. Gray's 3rd grade class enjoyed a game of whole class Pictionary with their clear touch panel for game day today.

In case you missed it live, check out our awesome Singing Sea Turtles spring concert video, https://youtu.be/IHRVSiRMN-0

Thank you to Surf City Rotary Club for providing all of our 3rd graders with their own personal dictionaries. Our community is the best!

Tuesday Edition: While our awesome 5th grade scientists rocked out their science EOG, 1st grade had fun with Bubble Day, 2nd graders enjoyed Camping Day and Kindergarten enjoyed Beach Day where they went under the sea and soaked up the sun with reading, writing, math, art and science.

Check out Camp Day in Mrs. Royal's class! They started the morning building their own campfires with cardboard tubes and tissue paper to mark their spot to sit and work around the room . Next they made binoculars, painted a keepsake campfire using their hand-prints and made a tent photo frame. They loved reading in the tents, “fishing in the river” and “catching bugs “ with the bug boxes.
They also had s’mores on a stick as a special snack.

Monday Edition: End of Year fun! Zoo Day in Kindergarten, Invention Day in 2nd grade & Teach the Teacher Day in 3rd.

Special guests from Ecological Marine Adventure on Topsail Island visited fourth grade classes to share some cool info about sharks.

Mrs. Holt's class had Teach the Teacher Day today. Mrs. Holt learned so much! How to make pizza, how to draw really cool things, how to make resin art and magic too!

Check out Mrs. Curry's kiddos working on their math concepts with the interactive panel. Students were engaged and able to show what they know with their classmates. Great work first graders!

It's National School Nurse Day and we would like to recognize Nurse Kandabarow. Thank you Nurse K for all that you do to support our sea turtles. Thank you to Nurse Rebecca too, who spent time with us this year as well. We are so thankful for the both of you.

Congratulations to Mrs. Shores' 5th grade classroom. They won the Golden Trash Can of the YEAR! Mrs. Shores tells her group everyday that if each of them helps by picking up a little, it makes life so much easier for others. Mr. Jeff works very hard and they can all do their part to help him. Mr. Jeff noticed that their room is consistently clean every day this school year, though he secretly surprised them this morning by throwing confetti all over. 🎊

Forty of our Singing Sea Turtles and their families traveled all the way to Charlotte this weekend to participate in Carowinds’ Festival of Music. They were judged and scored by 3 professional musicians, spoke with the composer of one of the pieces, and earned a rating of “Excellent” (the second highest rating you can earn). Surf City Elementary is the first elementary school in Pender County to take part in the Festival of Music. They earned a plaque that will hang in the music classroom forever. The kids deserve a huge congratulations!

All of our students were fortunate enough to experience the Tam Tam Drummers this morning. They were able to take a West African adventure where they discovered the culture through drumming, singing, and dancing.

First graders are beginning to learn the basics of 3D design and made their creation come to life with the help of our 3D printers. Take a look at these cute and proud faces!

Some more first grade motherly love in Mrs. Curry's & Mrs. Smith's classes during this morning's celebration. 🌸
