Bus 280 is running behind. They left the school at 3:50. We are sorry for the inconvenience and late notice.
We're thankful to have Ms. Rosse as our full time guidance counselor this year. This week she had the students create a portrait of a first grader or of a second grader. They created a model student while learning respect, communication, problem solving and setting personal goals for their school year!

Kindergarten students enjoyed moving to the music this week with Ms. Polster as they became caterpillars & butterflies. 🐛♫🦋

Mrs. Clark’s second graders are learning the parts of graphs. Check them out as they are creating a bar graph with their partner using color squares.

We're happy to share with you that Kavan from Ms. Wilson's 5th grade class is our first Sea Turtle of the Week for this new school year. Kavan, your school is proud of you. 💙🐢💚
Bus 288 left the bus lot at 4:21 on bus 291. Thank you for your patience and support.

We are so proud of our kindergarten students on their second day of school! They did amazing today. We are very sorry for any confusion. Surf City Elementary and most elementary schools in the district allow parents to walk students down the first day only- then staff accompanies them from there. Our students did awesome. We have staff strategically placed all throughout the school to assist the students. They did amazing and we greatly appreciate our parents and staff at Surf City Elementary!
Check out this awesome lunch room! These Kindergarten students and teachers are rocking it on their first full day all together. Way to SURF, Kindergarten! 🎥 http://bit.ly/3JU8fgA
Good afternoon Surf City Elementary Families! Bus 288 will be approximately 1 hour late this afternoon. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you would like to make a transportation change, please contact your child's teacher or send an email to sce_info@pender.k12.nc.us. Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs. Collins makes math fun! Students in all blocks played Grudgeball. It was a whole class review with teams. When a team got the question correct they got a point. They also got to shoot a basketball for a second point. They chose to keep their points, take away points from another team, or keep one and take one. They had a lot of fun!

It's a busy Thursday morning here at SCE. Guidance class outside with Ms. Rosse, an art lesson by the talented Mrs. Hanson, fire safety & bus safety! 🚌🎨
We're so thankful to have a well organized & enthusiastic PTA at Surf City Elementary. Let's support them by getting our class t-shirt orders in tomorrow and then attending their first meeting on Sept 8 right after school.

Ms. Bohrer's 1st grade class enjoyed the book First Day Jitters, sipped Jitter Juice, and started building new friendships! Their first day was full of smiles, stories and a lot of fun.

Mrs. Burnett's 3rd grade class was busy today discussing with their partner how to best organize and count a collection of objects. Efficient counting to help with multiplication is coming soon!

In Mrs. Horne's 5th grade ELA classes, students were asked to investigate their teacher. Students were thrilled to get special permission to peek inside the teacher's desk drawers, search the shelves and scan the walls to find evidence that reflects their teacher's personality, hobbies and other characteristics. Students gathered evidence and completed a written summary of their findings. This activity was a great warm up to citing evidence.

🚍 We know the first day of the three-tier schedule brought some challenges, while we continue to work to make improvements there is a free tool that can be helpful for families - the Here Comes the Bus app.
With this free app, parents can:
✅ See their child’s bus location on a map
✅ Get alerts when the bus is near your stop or school
✅ Gain peace of mind with notifications when the bus arrives in your area
The good news is that traffic flow improved by 30 minutes in some areas after adjustments from day one. While we continue to make changes, the Here Comes the Bus app can provide extra confidence and convenience for families.
