Who is ready to join the band??

5th Grade Students got the chance to meet with Mrs. Marshburn, the Cape Fear MS band director, last week to learn more about joining the band program in 6th grade. Students are coming home with more information this week, including information about an interest meeting on March 10th at 5:30pm in the CFMS band room. Parents can learn more about the instrumental rental program and how students will choose their instruments.

You can also reach out to Mrs. Marshburn (kayla_marshburn@pender.k12.nc.us) or Mrs. Black (laura_black@pender.k12.nc.us) for more information. We can't wait to welcome your student into their new musical journey!

🌟 Student Spotlight 🌟

Melissa is a 5th grader at Rocky Point Elementary, nominated by her music teacher, Laura Black, for leadership, kindness, and artistic talent.

Melissa is a hard-working student in both her homeroom and specials classes. Last year, she served as a student leader in the Rocky Point PALS Club, where she helped staff and students during morning arrival. Teachers describe her as responsible and dependable, and she sets a positive example for younger students at school.

Melissa is also a dedicated musician. She joined the orchestra program in 2023 and has spent the past two years learning the violin 🎻. This year, she will take on a leadership role in orchestra by helping new students as they begin learning a string instrument.

Outside of school, Melissa enjoys drawing 🎨. Her favorite food is lasagna 🍽️, and her favorite color is aqua 💧. She has a dog named Jack 🐶 and also has fish 🐟. One interesting fact about Melissa is that she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

💙 Thank you, Melissa, for being a kind leader and a great example at Rocky Point Elementary.

Our can pop tab challenge is continuing! Thank you to our wonderful students for bringing in their tabs!

Please consider saving pop tabs and sending them in with your child as a part of a community service project in which our school is collecting pop tabs from cans for the remainder of the school year to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Collecting can pop tabs supports the operating costs of providing a home away from home for families with sick children.

Please begin collecting and sending in tabs from soda, food and pet food cans! Let’s work together to collect as many pop tabs as possible!

Did you know...?

In music class, we "Sing, Say, Dance, and Play!" You won't find our Rams just sitting on the floor echoing songs - they get up and dance! Check out this video of our Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade classes demonstrating some dances and play parties that they have learned this year.
