📢 North Carolina law now requires all public schools to show safety education videos to students in grades 6–12 within the first five days of the school year.

🛡️ As part of the Protecting Our Students Act (S.L. 2023-128), these age-appropriate videos help students recognize and report signs of abuse, neglect, or unsafe situations and emphasize that reporting is always confidential.

🎥 Pender County Schools is committed to complying with this mandate and making sure students know how to stay safe and seek help if needed. Look for information from your school in your email or sent home with your student once classes begin.

📚 Walk to Read Camp is Reading Camp—reimagined! ✨ Under the leadership of Dr. Oates, Director of Elementary Education, and Meagan Winstead, Early Literacy Specialist, reading camp was transformed into a dynamic and engaging experience where students imagine, explore, and discover their path to excellence. 🧭 With a theme centered around exploration and discovery, students are immersed in literacy through books, art, and project-based learning that bring reading to life. 🎨📖 🔍 Our mission: Imagine, explore, and discover while mapping the path to excellence. 🌟 Our vision: Through Walk to Read and hands-on adventures, we explore new paths and discover exciting places—leading students to success. 🚀 Students across the district arrive each day energized and eager to learn—and families are noticing! 💬 One parent shared: “I’ve seen such a huge difference in his confidence in reading and writing. Did you know that in our Linda Eakins Outdoor Learning Classroom, we have a beautiful butterfly garden? While students help maintain the garden during the school year, we are looking for volunteers to help out this summer with weeding, watering, and donations. Specifially, we could use some more pine straw and butterfly bushes, as well as any other plants that help pollinators.
