Good afternoon current 8th grade parents! So this year students have been busy getting ready for high school. Applications for the Early College have been done. All students have been choosing their electives for 9th grade. The CAP (College Accelerator Program) application process is now live. Students listened to a presentation here at school by Dr. Lee and parents were invited to attend a night session on 2/13/23. The application deadline is March 15. Students will be notified on acceptance or waitlisted status by April 10. Attached is the link to explain the program. It is different from the Pender Early College High School. Below you will find the links to a video explaining the application process and the application. This process involves many steps so please start as soon as possible if interested. It involves uploading a video and requesting references. Dr. Lee included her email in the application if you have any specific questions. *Link to presentation that explains the program https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1nHBHnxDs6iB_i_3TNHcpzMYUOVzD5Td0AM4fKbm_JGA/edit?usp=sharing *Link to video that walks you through the application. https://youtu.be/834gDMXE5As *Link to the application. https://bit.ly/cap-application Thank you, Mrs. Burdette

Mrs. White’s 7th graders have been learning about forces and motion. To demonstrate their knowledge, students designed and built balloon cars from recycled materials! After racing, students calculated both the speed of their car as well as the force that was used to help put their cars into motion!

Mrs. Kessler’s 8th grade classes are reading The Outsiders. She wanted to build some excitement and help students gain an appreciation for the 60’s. After having done some research on fashion, politics, cars, music, hairstyles, etc, students were able to check out some beautiful vehicles from the time period. We would like to thank Mr. Harvey and Mr. Ted Hammond for allowing us to view their cars. They even revved them up for us to experience the power behind their massive engines. This was so cool! We love when the community gets involved and helps our students get excited to learn.

Good afternoon. In preparation for our new superintendent’s visit on February 21, we would like to put together a video to share what Penderlea School means to the community. We would like for any parent, student, former parent, former student, community member, etc. to record a 15 second clip (mp4 format) and email to edith_hounshel@pender.k12.nc.us. “What Penderlea means to me” is the theme for your video clip.
