apprenticeship

BURGAW, NC - Pender County Schools has been approved for the Pre-Apprenticeship to Apprenticeship Program.

This marks the first occasion Pender County Schools (PCS) has been selected to participate in the NC Apprenticeship endeavor. PCS will partner with Cape Fear Community College and Security Plus.

The occupation will be Electrician's Helper. The position will begin in January 2023.

"This is exciting news, especially given the current workers shortage across the country." said Pender County Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Michael Bracy. "To have an opportunity for hands-on learning which could lead to a permanent position, this is a shining example of Pender County Schools providing a pathway from classroom to career."

Pre-apprenticeships require an approved curriculum and support services for learners. Providing hands-on experience those involved in a pre-apprenticeship do not displace current workers. Upon completion of the program, individuals are typically offered an opportunity to move into a Registered Apprenticeship program with the employer.
