Population Information

(Burgaw, NC) - According to population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, Pender County’s growth rate was the sixth-fastest in North Carolina between April 1, 2020 and July 1, 2021.

Brunswick County (5.5%) and Currituck had the fastest growth-rates in the state, followed by Johnston (4.9%), Camden (4.6%), Franklin (4.6%) and Pender. Each were among the 73 counties in the state that experienced growth since 2020.

Pender County’s estimated population in April of 2020 was 60,203, that number increased to an estimated 62,815 in July 2021 for an increase of 2,612 people. Pender County was one of 79 counties that had more people move in than move away (net migration) since the 2020 Census. Net migration accounted for a population increase of 2,811, there were 199 deaths which results in the net population increase of 2,612.


North Carolina grew by 112,000 people, or 1.1%, faster than the national rate of 0.1%. Coastal counties or those that are suburbs of the Research Triangle had the fastest growth rate.
