Pender County Schools received results Wednesday from indoor air quality testing conducted Tuesday at C.F. Pope Elementary School.
While many of the results were encouraging, results from some pre-k through 2nd grade classrooms led the district to request additional testing before those spaces are used.
The affected classrooms and hallway will remain closed. Additional testing is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, with results expected Friday.
C.F. Pope's Open House will take place as scheduled Thursday. The area undergoing additional testing will be closed and will not be accessible during the event. Teachers whose classrooms are located in the affected area will meet with students and families in the gymnasium.
The district will not use the affected classrooms until the additional testing is complete and the results have been reviewed.
The additional testing is taking place before students return for the first day of school Monday, August 24. Pender County Schools will provide another update after the new results are received and reviewed Friday.
