PENDER COUNTY — Summer break may begin when the school year ends, but learning, enrichment and support for students will continue across Pender County Schools throughout the summer of 2026.

Pender County Schools is offering a wide range of summer opportunities designed to keep students engaged, active, supported and connected. From reading support and STEM exploration to career and technical education, recreation partnerships, Boys & Girls Club programming families will have access to programs at school sites across the district.

The district’s summer calendar shows programs beginning in early June and continuing into August, with multiple campuses serving as hubs for learning, enrichment and community support.

Academic support remains a key part of the summer schedule. Reading Camp is scheduled for June 8-11, June 15-18 and June 22-25, from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. at North Topsail Elementary, South Topsail Elementary, Cape Fear Elementary and Malpass Corner Elementary. The program gives students additional time and support with foundational reading skills before the start of the new school year.

Students looking for hands-on learning will also have opportunities through 21st Century STEM Camp, scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at C.F. Pope Elementary and Rocky Point Elementary. The STEM camp is listed on the summer calendar throughout June and into early July, with sessions running during the weeks of June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29 and July 6.

Communities in Schools 21st Century Camp is also scheduled at Burgaw Middle School from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. during those same summer weeks, giving students another opportunity for structured enrichment and support.

Career and Technical Education programming will also be part of the district’s summer offerings. CTE Camp is scheduled for June 8-12 at Heide Trask High School, Pender High School and Topsail High School, providing students with opportunities to explore career pathways and hands-on learning connected to future goals.

The summer calendar also includes enrichment and recreation opportunities through community partnerships. Pender Parks & Recreation Camp is scheduled at Topsail Annandale Elementary from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning June 8 and continuing through July 31. Surf City Parks & Recreation Camp is scheduled at Surf City Elementary from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during much of the summer, including sessions in June and July.

Boys & Girls Club programming at South Topsail Elementary provides another option for students and families during the summer months beginning June 8 and continuing through much of July.

Additional summer offerings include Story Seekers at West Pender Middle School during the week of June 8, Extended School Year services at Topsail High, South Topsail Elementary and Malpass Corner Elementary, and Camp Invention at C.F. Pope Elementary, Rocky Point Elementary and North Topsail Elementary. Camp Invention is scheduled for June 29 through July 2 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
