FAFSA

Heide Trask High School has once again been recognized for its commitment to helping students and families navigate the financial aid process.

The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority has named Heide Trask High School a 2026 CFNC Financial Aid Champion, marking the second consecutive year the school has earned the designation. The recognition honors schools, districts, and college access organizations that follow financial aid best practices and help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, better known as the FAFSA.

In total, 70 schools, districts, and organizations across North Carolina participated in this year’s Financial Aid Champions program. According to NCSEAA, schools that received the designation saw an average increase of 7.8 percentage points in FAFSA completion rates compared to the 2024-25 year.

“This recognition is a reflection of Heide Trask High School’s commitment to opening doors for students after graduation,” said Dr. Brad Breedlove, Superintendent of Pender County Schools. “Completing the FAFSA is a critical step for many families as they plan for college, career training, and other post-secondary opportunities. I am proud of the Heide Trask team for their continued dedication to making sure students have the information, support, and encouragement they need to take that next step.”

The Financial Aid Champion designation celebrates educators who use proven strategies to increase financial aid awareness and completion. Participants earned points by completing activities selected from a menu of best practices provided through CFNC, including outreach efforts focused on students and families.

As part of the recognition, Heide Trask High School will receive CFNC materials to help continue promoting access to financial aid, along with an email badge noting the designation. The school’s name will also be highlighted on CFNC’s website and honored during CFNC regional trainings in the fall.

NCSEAA, the primary sponsor of College for North Carolina, has helped North Carolinians pay for education since 1965. The agency administers financial aid and savings programs, supports students and families in understanding college affordability, and provides financial aid resources for education professionals.

For Heide Trask High School, the back-to-back recognition highlights an ongoing effort to ensure students are prepared not only to graduate, but to pursue meaningful opportunities beyond high school.
