Lisa Godwin, Pender County Schools’ Beginning Teacher Coach and the 2017 North Carolina Teacher of the Year, has been selected to serve on the Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education.
The commission was announced by Governor Josh Stein, Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger, and House Speaker Destin Hall. According to the Governor’s Office, the group was created to look at several parts of North Carolina’s public school system and make policy recommendations to state leaders.
Its work will focus on teacher training, student advancement, administrative operations, educational leadership, and accountability.
"We’re proud to see Lisa Godwin selected for this commission. She has a deep knowledge of North Carolina public schools and a clear understanding of the challenges and needs across education." said Dr. Brad Breedlove, Superintendent of Pender County Schools. "She will be a strong voice for Pender County Schools and for educators across the state."
Godwin’s appointment puts a Pender County Schools educator on a state-level commission that will help shape those discussions. She brings experience from both the classroom and her current work supporting new teachers in PCS.
Members of the commission were jointly appointed by the Governor, the Senate President Pro Tem, and the Speaker of the House.
