Pender County Schools is considering an adjustment to the district’s Pre-K schedule that would align the Pre-K school day with the K–5 schedule. This proposed shift is designed to strengthen early learning by offering additional instructional time, expanding social development opportunities, and supporting a smoother transition into elementary school.

Aligning schedules may also allow some schools to offer encore classes, such as art, music, or physical education, and may create opportunities for preschool students to access existing K–5 bus routes. An authorized adult would still be required at all bus stops for student drop-off and pick-up.

District leaders see this as an essential milestone toward the long-term goal of providing Universal Pre-K to families across Pender County.

PCS is now seeking feedback from families who have children entering preschool age in the coming years.
