PENDER COUNTY TIME CAPSULE

BURGAW, NC - Pender County Schools joined county officials, community members, and local organizations to mark Pender County’s 150th anniversary by helping bury the county’s first time capsule in front of the newly installed courthouse clock in Burgaw.

The capsule will preserve artifacts that capture the spirit, pride, and progress of our community for future generations to discover.

Pender County Schools contributed items from across the district, representing the voices, creativity, and traditions of students and staff. Schools donated items such as letters, student work, yearbooks, and keepsakes that showcase what education and community mean in 2025.

Participating schools included South Topsail Elementary, North Topsail Elementary, Pender High School, Rocky Point Elementary, Burgaw Middle School, Cape Fear Middle School, Topsail High School, Surf City Middle School, Pender Innovative Leadership Academy, and the Pender County Schools Central Office.

“This time capsule is more than a collection of items, it’s a snapshot of who we are as a community and a school district in this moment in time.” Said Dr. Brad Breedlove, Superintendent of Pender County Schools. “I’m proud that our students and schools are part of preserving Pender County’s story for future generations. When this capsule is opened in 2075, I hope those who see it will feel the same pride, unity, and commitment to learning that define Pender County Schools today.”

The capsule is set to be opened in 2075 when Pender County marks its 200th anniversary and the United States celebrates its 300th.
