PROJECT ADAM

Thanks to the dedication of two Pender County parents and nurses, every school in Pender County Schools is now equipped with a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), making PCS only the second district in North Carolina to reach this level of preparedness.

The initiative was led by Lesslie Duncan and Jamie Uhlman, who worked together to implement life-saving measures after both experienced cardiac emergencies involving their children. With support from Project ADAM, the district now has established emergency protocols and AEDs in place to better protect students and staff.

Duncan and Uhlman are now advocating for the statewide Smart Heart Act, which would require every North Carolina school to have both a CERP and an AED on site.
