j.h. lea build site sept 2025

HAMPSTEAD, NC - Construction continues at the site of the new J.H. Lea Elementary and Middle School campus, a major investment in the future of Pender County Schools. Scheduled to open in August 2027, the K-8 facility will serve students in a modern learning environment designed to meet the needs of a growing community.

From Highway 210, residents can already see significant progress. The towering steel framework marks the middle school area, which will house administrative offices, a media center, and classroom wings. Recent work included pouring the final foundation slab for the elementary school wing, with crews contributing more than 1,500 man-hours in a single day to keep the project moving forward.

Dr. Brad Breedlove, Superintendent of Pender County Schools, emphasized the importance of the project:

“The construction of the J.H. Lea K-8 campus is more than just building a school, it’s an investment in our students, our families, and our community’s future. We are grateful to everyone who has supported this project and look forward to opening the doors to a new era of learning in 2027.”
