HAMPSTEAD, NC — Chloe McVetta, a first-year teacher at Topsail Middle School, has been named the March Beginning Teacher of the Month for her outstanding contributions to the classroom and beyond.

McVetta's journey as an educator has been marked by remarkable achievements. Notably, she was recognized as a curriculum spotlight teacher for Eureka Math2 in her inaugural year. Her dedication to professional development led her to participate in an Ecological Edventure to explore the ecology of Baja, where she not only gained invaluable experiences but also helped conduct whale research.

To support her educational pursuits, McVetta received a $1000 continuing education grant from the NC Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation. This grant aided her in covering expenses related to her participation in the Ecological Edventure and furthering her teaching skills.

Beyond the classroom, McVetta demonstrates her commitment to her students by staying after school as a 5th-grade math teacher, nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning. Her mentorship has also extended to guiding students through various academic endeavors, including the Science Fair, where two of her students advanced to the NC state level competition under her guidance.

McVetta's involvement in extracurricular activities is equally notable. She served as an active coach for the Science Olympiad team, contributing to the varsity team's first-place finish and the junior varsity team's second-place overall achievement.

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, McVetta moved to Wilmington to pursue her education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). Graduating with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and double concentrations in Math-Technology and Science-Health in 2023, McVetta's passion for teaching has taken her abroad to Sweden during her time at UNCW, where she had the opportunity to teach.

Reflecting on her teaching philosophy, McVetta embraces the quote, "Teaching is the greatest act of optimism" by Colleen Wilcox, highlighting her belief in the transformative power of education.
