kindergarten registration

ROCKY POINT, NC - Pender County Schools recently hosted a vibrant and engaging community event on March 13, 2024, at Heide Trask High School, aimed at welcoming prospective preschool and kindergarten students and their families. The evening proved to be a tremendous success, with representatives from all nine elementary schools in attendance, eager to introduce themselves and extend a warm welcome to future students.

The event was not just about greetings; it was about facilitating the registration process for parents. Data managers from each school were on hand to help and ensure a smooth registration experience for families looking to enroll their children in Pender County Schools.

Beyond the school representatives, the event saw active participation from numerous community partners, whose presence greatly enriched the experience. Among these partners were the Health Department, which offered dental services and physicals through their mobile unit, and the Sheriff's Department, which contributed to the event's security and community engagement efforts. Other notable partners included Novant Health, Coastal Horizons, PATH, Communities in Schools, Migrant Head Start, WIC, Healthy Blue NC, and Smart Start.

Adding to the festivities, local businesses joined in to provide culinary delights, with food trucks such as Pepe's Tacos, Mema's Chicken and Ribs, the Donut Bus, and Brown Dog offering a diverse array of treats to attendees.

For the younger attendees, there were games, an inflatable slide, and an inflatable maze, ensuring an atmosphere of fun and excitement. Moreover, the event aimed to educate and inspire, with public service vehicles, tractors, and even a Department of Transportation dump truck on display for students to explore and learn about.

The success of the event owes much to the dedication and leadership of key individuals. Special thanks are extended to Mr. Gene Hudson, principal of Heide Trask High School, for graciously hosting the event. Additionally, recognition is due to Ms. Deandra Owens, Elementary Director, and Stacie Poulin, Executive Director of Preschool, for their meticulous planning and coordination, which contributed to the event's seamless execution.

Looking ahead, Pender County Schools is committed to building upon the success of this year's event, with plans to expand and enhance future community engagements. The district eagerly anticipates the opportunity to further strengthen its bonds with the community and continue providing exceptional educational experiences for all students.
