kids reading

PENDER COUNTY, NC - Pender County Schools is thrilled to announce an exciting new project aimed at enhancing literacy and fostering a love for reading among our students by updating our K-6 classes with new classroom libraries!

The purpose of this innovative initiative is to equip each K-6 classroom with a thoughtfully curated collection of high-interest books. These classroom libraries will serve as invaluable resources to enrich the curriculum, promote independent reading, and support literacy development across grade levels.

At Pender County Schools, we believe in the power of collaboration and community involvement. That's why we're excited to include parents in the book selection process. We value your input and recognize the importance of engaging families in educational endeavors.

To ensure transparency and encourage parental participation, we invite all families to review the book titles being considered for our classroom libraries. Simply visit our website at https://www.pender.k12.nc.us/ and navigate to the Upcoming Classroom Library page under the Families/Community section on the website menu. Here, you'll find a digital form where you can provide feedback on any of the titles listed. This page and feedback form will be available from March 1, 2024 to March 15, 2024.

But that's not all! We're also hosting two parent meetings to discuss the upcoming classroom libraries and share the potential list of books with parents. The first meeting will take place at Topsail Annandale Elementary on March 12, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM in the media center. The second meeting will be held at Cape Fear Middle School on March 14, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM in the media center.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to enhance literacy and empower our students through the joy of reading! We look forward to your participation and collaboration in this important project.
