BURGAW, NC — Pender County Schools proudly announces the appointment of Melissa Wilson as the Director of Human Resources, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious 22-year career in education, 18 of which have been dedicated to Pender County Schools. Ms. Wilson has served as the Principal of Topsail Annandale Elementary School for the past seven years, fostering an environment of academic excellence and inclusivity.
Originally from Ellicott City, Maryland, Ms. Wilson's journey in education led her to Wilmington, NC in 1998, where she pursued her undergraduate degree in Special Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). Her passion for education and commitment to student success propelled her through various roles, including teaching in Maryland, teaching intensive behavior support classes in New Hanover County, and serving in multiple capacities within Pender County Schools.
Ms. Wilson's last day at Topsail Annandale Elementary is scheduled for December 20, 2023. Reflecting on her tenure at the school, Ms. Wilson expressed gratitude for the privilege of leading the Topsail Annandale Elementary School community for the past seven years. "It has been an absolute privilege to serve as the leader of the Topsail Annandale Elementary School community for the past seven years. Witnessing the growth, dedication, and enthusiasm of our students, staff, and parents has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” Ms. Wilson said. “While I am excited for the new chapter ahead, Topsail Annandale will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Topsail Annandale Elementary, an integral part of Pender County Schools, serves grades K-4 and is home to approximately 600 students and 70+ staff members. The school takes pride in housing two regional Adaptive EC (Special Education) classrooms and serving members of the military community. The school's motto, "You Belong Here," encapsulates its commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for every student.
Jessica Bellflower has accepted the position of Principal at Topsail Annandale Elementary and will fully assume her new role December 21, 2023.
