BURGAW, NC - Burgaw Middle School has earned a Pender County Schools Staff Honor Roll Award for the 2023-2024 school year. The award was earned after the entire BMS coaching staff's attainment of the Level 1 designation through the National Federation of State High Schools (NFHS). This accomplishment reflects their dedication to continuous professional development and personal growth, which ultimately benefits the students and student-athletes within Pender County Schools.

The award was created by Pender County Schools County Athletic Director Matt Davis and is presented to middle schools who earn NFHS certification.

"It's our goal that all coaches in the county, middle and high, volunteer and paid, become Level 1 certified through NFHS," said Mr. Davis. "All middle school coaches are required to complete a four-course regiment through nfhslearn.com."

While the NFHS offers honor roll designations (Level 1, 2, or 3) for high schools, these specific designations are not extended to middle schools. Nevertheless, coaches at the middle school level can still participate in the program, which includes the following courses:

    1. Middle School Coaching or Fundamentals of Coaching

    2. Concussions in Sports

    3. Protecting Kids from Abuse

    4. Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Principal Brian Allen expressed his heartfelt appreciation, stating, "I give all the credit to Coach Brown and our BMS Coaches. We have a dedicated team that always looks for ways to best support our student-athletes no matter what the extra load places on our leaders. Whether it be driving a bus, transporting other teams for the good of the group, checking grades for participation, or simply coaching, you all deserve this honor and recognition."

In recognition of this outstanding achievement, an award plaque will be presented to Coach Brown and the coaching staff.

This honor not only reflects the dedication of the Burgaw Middle coaching staff but also highlights the school's commitment to fostering excellence in education throughout the Pender County Schools community.
