BURGAW, NC - A group of students from West Pender Middle School recently had the unique opportunity to participate in Cape Fear Community College's Career Academy camps. These camps, designed to expose middle school students to a wide range of college and career training options, offered hands-on experience in diverse fields, including healthcare, skilled trades, public safety, and more.

The camps catered specifically to rising 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders at West Pender Middle School, showcasing the institution's commitment to fostering an early interest in potential career paths. Attendees were met with an extensive list of fields to explore, including nursing, dental hygiene, electrical work, barbering, nail technology, radiography, lineworker training, truck driving, firefighting, law enforcement, EMT services, phlebotomy, diesel mechanics, small and outboard engine repair, occupational therapy assistance, aviation, and drones, among others.

The goal of the camps was to provide these young students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in fields they might be passionate about pursuing in the future. From learning the intricacies of healthcare practices to understanding the mechanics of aviation and drones, the students were immersed in interactive workshops led by professionals in their respective fields.

The experience not only exposed the students to potential career paths but also facilitated personal growth, teamwork, and the development of crucial skills. Throughout the camps, friendships formed as participants collaborated on various tasks and challenges, creating a supportive and dynamic learning environment.
