📣✨ October is National Principals Month! ✨📣
All month long, we’ll be celebrating the incredible principals of Pender County Schools by sharing short video spotlights. 🎥
From what inspired them to lead, to their favorite memories from school, to the advice they’d give their younger selves — you’ll get a chance to see the heart, humor, and humanity behind the title “Principal.” 💙💛
Stay tuned throughout October as we feature principals from across our district. We can’t wait for you to hear their stories and get to know them even better! YouTube - https://youtube.com/shorts/zNz991YHD2Y

The Color Run Fundraiser kicked off this Monday! Mark your calendars for the big day on Friday, October 24th. 🗓️ Be sure to register your student today! The class with the most registrations will win a special prize! 🏆 How many students can we get signed up before tomorrow?
Meet Mr. Brandon Wieland, an 8th grade math teacher at Topsail Middle School, who is being recognized for his dedication, kindness, and the many ways he supports students both inside and outside the classroom. Known for his approachable personality and fun sense of humor, Mr. Wieland makes learning math engaging while also being someone students can talk to about life beyond school.
What stands out most about Mr. Wieland is his willingness to go above and beyond. Before school even began this year, he was seen mowing the school fields early in the morning, showing his commitment to creating a welcoming environment. In addition to teaching, he serves as both the softball and soccer coach, giving his athletes his full support on and off the field.
A former student shared a story that reflects his heart: even after they had moved on from his class, Mr. Wieland tutored them in math during his free time—on top of his teaching and coaching duties—and refused to accept payment because he simply wanted to help. His kindness, generosity, and dedication make him an incredible teacher and role model at Topsail Middle.
💛💙 Thank you, Mr. Wieland, for the countless ways you support and inspire your students and athletes every day!

To top it off, they wrapped up their Earth's System Unit with fun classroom experiments exploring convection. Who knew you could watch convection happen in a jar?! 🧪💧
Mrs. Gonzales can’t wait to see her students’ creativity and curiosity bloom even more in the next unit!

Meet Gates, an 8th grader at Topsail Middle School, who is being recognized for his leadership and kindness. Gates leads by example—he is respectful, dependable, and always willing to lend a hand. Instead of telling others what to do, he includes everyone and encourages his peers to do their best. His kindness shines in the way he treats others with care, stands up for what’s right, and makes sure no one feels left out.
At TMS, Gates’ positive personality has made a lasting impact on his classmates and school community. His big heart and steady leadership inspire those around him every day.
Outside of school, Gates enjoys playing basketball, riding his dirt bike, hunting, and fishing. His favorite foods are steak and shrimp, his favorite color is blue, and an interesting fact—he is passionate about his goals and the things he loves most.
💛💙 Congratulations, Gates—you are a great example of Pirate leadership and kindness!

Tryouts for Winter Sports at Topsail Middle School are coming up. Please make sure your student-athlete has all the required paperwork and eligibility requirements met in order to tryout. Boys Basketball/Girls Soccer start October 20 and Cheerleading starts October 21.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Chase and Mr. Brittain for facilitating this valuable activity, and to Ms. Wood for her collaboration with the middle school Career Development Coordinator.
Encouraging our students to take charge of their futures!
