Your student had the opportunity today to listen to our District Attorney, Ben David, and Asst. District Attorney, Jason Smith, during an assembly at Topsail Middle. I was very impressed with how attentive and respectful our 7th-grade and 8th-grade students were during the assemblies. TMS has established this partnership with the DA at Topsail and has a rich tradition of yearly meetings during the past 25 years. The adult conversations have evolved but today were centered around choices and consequences. We live in a World of cell phones and social media, with a majority of our students interacting with others online. We find it extremely important to empower our young students to make a difference in the community and to understand the dangers that can occur on the Internet. If you were not able to attend our family night last week with the DA, I have included an Internet Safety Contract linked in this email below to help guide these adult conversations. We encourage families (not necessarily to have students sign contracts) but to have adult conversations with your children about the Internet, social media, cell phones, who to contact in case of an emergency (ICE), being a responsible student, and other topics they might have learned on campus today.
Thank you for your continued partnership,
Jacob Lawrence, Principal
