Some of our CTE staff are spending this week in Winston Salem for the 2023 CTE Summer conference. Our staff are working on professional development, completing the new teacher academy and learning updates to curriculum for the upcoming school year!
Noah Witkowski, rising junior has been working hard this summer interning with Sessions Auto Mechanics. He has just completed his 120 hours and is working on finishing his final assignments. Noah took a short break on completing his hours to hike at Philmont Ranch in New Mexico and will be heading off shortly to represent the United States at the 2023 World Jamboree in South Korea. Mr. Tom Sessions, owner of Sessions Auto, has a wealth of knowledge in mechanics and is sought after by Viper owners around the United State. He has been an active supporter of Topsail High School students and programs for years. Thank you for sharing your shop and knowledge with our students!

Carson Major has been interning this summer at Topsail Animal Hospital. When we stopped in to visit, she was observing surgery. Carson will complete 120 hours with Topsail Animal Hospital this summer. She is excited to start applying for college in the fall as she wants to be a veterinarian. During our visit we spoke with Dr. Jared James who is a Topsail High Graduate and he too completed an internship at Topsail Animal Hospital while he was a high school student. Thank you Topsail Animal Hospital for supporting our students and hosting interns.
A group of students have recently returned home from completing an 87 mile hike at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. We are excited to be able to offer THS Rising 9th Grade/ New Student Orientation. This opportunity is for Topsail High School incoming 9th grade students or any newly enrolled students. Parents do not need to be present for orientation but will be invited for Open House. During the day, students will meet some of our teachers, tour the campus, participate in STEAM activities, and engage in team building skills. Sessions will run from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. Breakfast and lunch will be served each day; transportation is available by request. Please complete the Google Form below based on which date you would prefer your child to attend. Only sign-up for one date. Registration will close on Wednesday, July 5th in order to provide enough time for buses to be scheduled to run on the orientation days. A Celebration of Life for Jamie Rochelle will be held in the gym at Topsail High School on Friday, June 30th at 11 AM.
The family is requesting that everyone wear flip flops as we know they were Jamie’s favorite footwear and he wore them everywhere he went.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you about the passing of a beloved Pirate and amazing coach, Jamie Rochelle. Jamie was a 1999 graduate of Topsail and 15 years ago he returned as a faculty member. In his time at Topsail he was our Digital Learning Coordinator, a PE Teacher, Drivers Education teacher, Assistant Football coach, Assistant Basketball coach, Head Men's Basketball coach, Head Boys Golf coach, and had just been named the head coach for our Girls golf team this upcoming school year. Jamie bled Black and Gold, but more important than anything listed above Jamie had a heart for this community, this school and our students. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, athletes, and students during this difficult time. Arrangements have not been announced at this time.

Maddox Kelly, a rising junior at Topsail High School, is working hard this summer at his internship with Onslow Bay Boats. He has almost completed his 120 hour internship and course work to receive an internship credit. Maddox is learning how to build offshore and tournament edition center console boats from start to finish. Onslow Bay has been a huge supporter of our student internship program and Pathways to Careers business supporter. Pender County is excited to be partnering with a graduate from Pender County Schools and we look forward to working with them for years to come.

Dante Putrino is a rising senior who completed his welding certification his junior year at CFCC. This summer he is taking part in a summer internship where he will complete 120 hours of welding, complete course work and a micro credential in employability/soft skills. He has been hard at work since school let out and has almost completed all his required hours. Owner of LJ Metal Works, who is sponsoring the internship, is impressed with Dante and his welding skills. Thank you LJ Metal Works for being willing to take on a summer intern and supporting Dante in his career goals. Pender County schools is excited about our future partnerships.
