The Master Gardener’s taught Mrs. Curry's 1st grade class about pollinators today. They learned the different dances that bees do to communicate and had a chance to act them out. Thank you master gardeners for an amazing year with lots of learning. 🐝🌿

Dr. Martin’s economics unit has come to an amazing close with a hands-on project that truly brought learning to life!
📚💡 Students became entrepreneurs and created their very own toy store through a project based learning activity! 🚀 They put their financial literacy skills to the test, learning about how to make a profit, expenses, and pricing strategies.
💰💼 But it didn't stop there! The real magic happened when students from other grades came to shop in their store.
🛍️ Seeing their classmates engage with the products they created was not only rewarding but a true application of the economics concepts they've been mastering.
Here’s to hands-on learning and real-world skills and ending up with a $607 profit!🌟

Mrs. McDonald's Kindergarten class is thankful for their wonderful volunteer, Ms. Laura, who is a retired art teacher. They just adore their time with her!

We're happy to share with you that Kaelyn S. from Mrs. McGlinchey's 1st grade class is our Sea Turtle of the Week for the week of May 6-10. Kaelyn, your school is proud of you.

Mrs. McDonald's Kindergarten class is reading the Geodes book, Ladi’s Pots. The students worked together to create a clay pot like Ladi using playdoh. Ask your child ➡️ Who was Ladi Kwali? 🤔

Mrs. Bricken’s first grade class is learning all about verb tenses. With a partner, students went on a hunt for any past, present or future verbs within their story, “Owl at Home”.

Please join Surf City Elementary's PTA and "Chalk the Walk" with inspirational messages to give our Sea Turtles a boost for EOG testing. https://bit.ly/scechalkthewalk

If we said this Teacher Appreciation week was off to a great start, it would be a huge understatement. Our PTA is the best of the best. We appreciate all your hard work and are so thankful for everything so far. 💙💚

Students in Mrs. Rice's 4th grade class are thinking about different characters’ perspectives and how they affect their actions in a story about the Revolutionary War. They've read some great texts and looked at the painting of “Washington Crossing the Delaware.” Students have had some wonderful insights and conversations about this important time in our history!

Congratulations to Mrs. Workman's Kindergarten class. They are our recent winners of the Golden Trash Can. Mr. Jeff has noticed that they are picking up their materials and keeping their room clean each and every day. Your school is proud of you! 🌟

SCE got to celebrate our Teacher of the Year, Ms. Hitchens, and our Teacher of Promise, Ms. Milliner, at the Pender County Schools' Awards Banquet last night. Both teachers are huge assets to our school. Way to go ladies!

Time to find all those library books! 📚

Last week third grade took a trip to the Ecological Marine Aquarium (EMA) ! 🌊🐟🦑 Taking students to the beach for a day of learning and hands-on experiments was incredible. From dissecting fish and squid to meeting reptiles and sea creatures, and even catching fish with a seine net on the beach, it was a blast! And of course, we couldn't resist a visit to Soundside Park too!

Grade 5 students in the AIG math group used their time over the last few months learning to work together to logically solve the problem of engineering a marble roller coaster from paper. Students designed, tested and redesigned their projects several times to achieve optimal results. They explored energy transformation while considering friction and gravity. They considered each other’s ideas, abandoned plans and deliberated new design ideas and solutions. Most importantly, they had lots of fun creating something new and unique.
