PreK had a special parent visitor today! NCIS Special Agent Sal came to talk to the classes today about his job responsibilities and how he helps to keep our community safe. He gave our preschoolers an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how they can help to stay safe and make safe choices, such as not answering the door at home for strangers, etc.

Our wonderful GOTR coach, Coach Devon, is looking for our help. She is also the THS Cross Country coach and they need your old shoes. 🤝 🏃🏻♀️ 👟 They're are holding a fundraiser to collect used athletic shoes including trainers (all sports), cleats (rubber only) and hiking/leisure (Vans, Converse). The XC team is compensated for all shoes that can be rehomed to those in need and those shoes too-well-loved will be recycled into things like rubber tracks and playground surfaces. Money earned will go directly to the THS cross country team to be used for invitational meet fees and travel. There are donation boxes set up at all the area elementary and middle schools.

Ms. Burnett's, Ms. Metivier's, Ms. O'Brien's and Ms. Gruber's 3rd grade classes went to Scooters in Wilmington today. Students did some STEM activities with force and motion, they reverse engineered a skate, made a skate to test friction and had fun roller skating!

Ms. Wither's PreK class had a fruit-tastic time working together to make a delicious fruit salad. They started by creating their own recipe as a group, discussing which fruits to include and how to prepare them. Then they practiced important skills like washing, cutting (with help) and safely handling the ingredients. Everyone had a chance to contribute, and the result was a colorful, tasty fruit salad that was enjoyed by all.

Happy Friday! Starting Oct. 1, our 3rd-5th graders will start using Accelerated Reader and K-5 students will also participate in the district's Million Minute Challenge. More information on that to come! Exciting things are in the near future for our READERS at Surf City Elementary!

Mrs. Edwards' first grade class earned enough SURF points for a pajama and stuffy day. Their points are being earned by being fantastic during Encore classes. Keep up the great work!

We're happy to share with you that Connor from Ms. Pierce's 1st grade class is our Sea Turtle of the Week. Connor, your school is proud of you. 💙🐢💚

🍎👮♂️ Lunch with the Law 👮♀️🍎 Thank you to our awesome SC Police Department for sitting down to lunch with our first graders. This community program gives the officers the chance to connect with students, answer their curious questions, and build positive relationships in a fun, relaxed setting. We’re grateful for the opportunity to show these young students that police officers are here to help, support, and keep them safe.
Ms. Polster's music class makes us happy! 🎶🥁

Good news! The driver for 288 will be on time. If you would like your child to ride bus 288, but you have already made arrangements for your child to be picked up, please notify the school. sce_info@pender.k12.nc.us
We are sorry for the late switch, but on time is better than a 4:15 dismissal!
