Quick Thinking and Teamwork Make All the Difference
On Tuesday, February 24th, after school, three SCE & SCM students became real-life heroes! Ruby, her sister Airlie, and Kyle noticed something dangerous—smoke coming from a neighbor's house.
Instead of ignoring it, the kids sprang into action. They walked closer to investigate and discovered that shrubs near the house were on fire. Working quickly, they knocked on the door and rang the doorbell to alert the residents, who were taking an afternoon nap inside. The children also got Ruby's dad, who arrived with buckets of water to help fight the flames.
Thanks to their bravery and teamwork, the residents made it safely out of the house. When the fire department arrived, they were able to put out the 4-to-5 foot flames with only minor damage to the outside of the home.
A Special Connection
Mrs. Bush called the school to inform us of the heroic acts of these students. Had it not been for them, the outcome may have been different. Mr. Bush, previously taught shop class at Topsail High School, and Mrs. Bush taught at South Topsail Elementary. Some of Mr. Bush's former students were among the firefighters who responded to the call!
What We Can Learn
This story reminds us that paying attention to our surroundings and acting quickly can save lives. Ruby, Airlie, and Kyle didn't hesitate to help their neighbor. They're an inspiration to all of us!
