Good Afternoon Rocky Point Families,

Congratulations to all of our Science Olympiad team members for a job well done at the district competition on Saturday.  A special thank you to our parents who volunteered your time helping our students prepare for this competition.  An extra special congratulations to Alexis Romero and Nikki Perez who placed first in the event, “Describe It, Build It” and to Anyelo Luis Carbajal and Vincent Gough who placed second in the Pasta Tower event.  We are so proud of all of you!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our district CTE Spirit Week this past week as we highlight and are appreciative for our career and technical education programs and careers.

Additionally, we appreciate all the love shown to our bus drivers this past week during Love the Bus week.  Please remember your child may submit a poster for the National School Bus Safety Poster Contest until April 17th.  Again, this contest promotes school bus safety by having students submit artwork that depicts school bus safety-related themes, in which this year’s theme is: Driving Safely Into the Future.

I am excited to share that this past week on Wednesday, February 14th, we achieved 95% attendance of all students.  That is our goal each and every day!  As we continue our focus on having healthy attendance as a school, I will include something connected with attendance in each weekend update.  Good attendance habits pay off! More school days attended increases a child’s academic success, improves their chances to earn a high school diploma and a college degree, so they can earn higher pay in their careers.

Talent Show flyers & applications were sent home with students this past week.  If your child is interested in participating in this year’s talent show, please have your child submit an application to Mrs. Laura Black, our music teacher by next Monday, February 26th.

Rams in the Spotlight - Talent Show Rules

This upcoming week we will continue our ACCESS testing for identified students in grades 1-5, which will continue throughout the month of February.

Please remember that the application period for reassignments for the 2024-2025 school year opened on February 1 for parents who wish to enroll their student in a Pender County School outside of their designated zone.  The deadline for submitting reassignment requests is set for March 31st.

Our quote for the week in honor of President’s Day on Monday and Black History Month:  "You can’t let your failures define you.  You have to let your failures teach you.  You have to let them show you what to do differently the next time.  No one’s born being good at all things…you become good at things through hard work” by Barack Obama.  Have a great week and thank you for your continued support!
