Good afternoon Rocky Point Families,

A sincere appreciation to all of our families for the excellent attendance during the last two weeks during our end of year assessments.  This past week, on Tuesday, for our math EOG, we had 194 out of 197 students in grades 3-5 present and on Thursday, for our reading EOG, we had 196 out of 197 students present in grades 3-5.  All makeups have been able to be completed for reading and math EOGs as we move into our final week of school and end of year initial assessments.   This is absolutely phenomenal!

As I have shared in previous weekend messages, this week we will have our end of grade assessments in Science for grade 5 and Read to Achieve assessment for select 3rd grade students, in which yellow letters will be coming home Monday with those students.  Please have a conversation with your child about doing their best on their assessments in order for us to overcome this low performing status that is currently connected with our school.  We need all students at school and on time each day with having had a good night’s rest and the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast.  As we did this past week, we will be calling the parent of each child that is absent as of 7:20am each morning of testing.

As we receive our end-of-year assessment results, if students do not show proficiency, we have opportunities available for them to have remediation and summer testing opportunities as well as summer learning opportunities followed by summer testing opportunities.  Please be on the lookout for information coming home Monday, May 22nd through Wednesday, May 24th regarding this information.  Additionally, please accept any phone calls from the school as it is likely someone reaching out to discuss additional support and summer testing opportunities.

Also, if you have not purchased a yearbook, please do so!  We ensure that every student is in the yearbook at least one time, with many students appearing multiple times!  Yearbooks are available to purchase from the office for $25 until all yearbooks are sold; all purchases made in the office must be made in cash.  If you have any questions, you can contact Mrs. Black at laura_black@pender.k12.nc.us

Mark your calendars for planned events for our last week of school:

We hope that you will take advantage of this digital resource from Literacy at Home, which provides literacy activities at each grade level, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Families and communities may access this resource for activities that specifically target the literacy skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and oral language.  We encourage your use of this resource to continue your support of literacy development during the summer months.

Our quote for the week is focused on our love for our students:  ““I call my students ‘my kids’ because in our year together, they aren’t just kids on my class list, they become a part of my heart.” – Unknown.  We hope to see everyone on Thursday or Friday to celebrate our students' hard work and great behavior throughout this school year!  Have a great week!
