Good afternoon Rocky Point Families,

A sincere appreciation to everyone who helped us shower our teachers with love during Teacher Appreciation week this past week.  A special thanks to our PTO for the daily edible treats for our staff as well as the families that worked together to spoil our staff by feeding them following field day the previous week.

Thank you to all families who joined us for our transition night and 2nd and 3rd grade performances this past Tuesday evening.  We hope that you enjoyed these performances as well as learning about upcoming grade expectations for your child in the upcoming grade level.  For families that were unable to attend, please be on the lookout this upcoming week for materials that were provided to families at our transition event as our way of showing you that we missed you and you having the information is still very important.

Thank you to all families also for your support with our Book Fair this past week.  Your purchases allow us to broaden reading materials not only in your homes, but also in our school media center.

As I have shared in previous weekend messages, this week we will have our end of grade assessments in Math and Reading for grades 3-5.  Please have a conversation with your child about doing their best on their EOGs in order for us to overcome this low performing status that is currently connected with our school.  We need all students at school and on time each day with having had a good night’s rest and the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast.  We will be calling the parent of each child that is absent as of 7:20am each morning of testing.

For further encouragement this upcoming week, we will be having the following spirit days this week:

  • Monday, May 15th:  Shine with Pride - Wear RPES attire or royal blue

  • Tuesday, May 16th:  Slam Dunk the EOGs - Wear jerseys, team or sports attire

  • Wednesday, May 17th:  Study Buddies Help Each Other Do Their Best On the Test - Dress the same as a friend or friends

  • Thursday, May 18th:  Don’t Sweat the Test - Wear sweats or athletic attire

  • Friday, May 19th:  Way to Knock the Socks off of EOGs - Wear crazy socks

We have approximately 12 pages of overdue library books.  If your child has not returned their library books, please do so this week!  You will be receiving a notification for payment for the missing books, now that our inventory of library books has been completed.

Also, if you have not purchased a yearbook, please do so!  We ensure that every student is in the yearbook at least one time, with many students appearing multiple times!  Yearbooks are available to purchase from the office for $25 until all yearbooks are sold; all purchases made in the office must be made in cash.  If you have any questions, you can contact Mrs. Black at laura_black@pender.k12.nc.us

Mark your calendars for tentatively planned events for the remainder of the year:

  • Tuesday, May 16th - Math EOG for grades 3-5

  • Thursday, May 18th - Reading EOG for grades 3-5

  • Tuesday, May 23rd - Science EOG for grade 5 & Read-to-Achieve for 3rd grade

  • Thursday, May 25th - 5th grade Moving up ceremony @ 8:00am

  • Friday, May 26th - K-4 End of year awards ceremonies throughout the school day beginning at 7:45am.  Exact times will be shared in next weekend’s update

Lastly, we would like to wish all of our Rocky Point Mothers and Guardians a very Happy Mother’s Day.  Our quote for the week is focused on you:  “The mother is the first teacher of the child.  The message she gives that child, that child gives to the world” by Malcolm X.  Again, Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers and we hope you know you all are highly appreciated!
