Weekly Update

Good evening Penderlea Families,

Here are important information and updates for the week of November 2nd through November 6th  and beyond. Thank you for staying connected and involved.

Teacher Workday Reminder

Penderlea families, please remember that Tuesday, November 3 is a Teacher Workday. There will be no school for students that day.

Students will return to school on Wednesday, November 4.

Penderlea Fall Fundraiser

We are in the final days of our Candy Man Fall Fundraiser! The fundraiser ends Tuesday, November 3, so now is the time to finish up any remaining orders and help us end on a strong note.

Remember, Candy Man offers much more than just candy, and students have the opportunity to earn several prizes and incentives, including the chance to be Principal for the Day!

Every order helps support Penderlea’s general school fund, which provides additional resources, supports school events, and helps meet needs that directly benefit our students, staff, and school community.

Thank you to everyone who has already participated. We appreciate your support as we make this final push to finish strong!

Scholastic Book Fair This Week!

Our Scholastic Book Fair is happening this week, November 2–6! We are excited to give our students the opportunity to discover new books and continue building a love of reading.

Families can make shopping easier by setting up a Book Fair eWallet for their child. eWallet allows students to shop cash-free, worry-free, and independently, and family members or friends can also contribute funds.

Create your child’s eWallet here:

To help us wrap up Book Fair week, we will celebrate “Read It, Love It, Be It!” Character Dress-Up Day on Friday, November 6.

Students who shop at the Book Fair may dress up as a character from any book and bring one of their favorite stories to life. We encourage students to choose a character they love and have fun celebrating reading with us!

We are looking forward to a great week of books, reading, and fun at Penderlea!

November Cafeteria Menu

Our November cafeteria menus are now available! Families can review the breakfast and lunch options planned for the month and help students know what to expect each day.

We encourage families to take a look at the menus together and talk with students about their meal choices for the week.

This Week in Hornet Athletics:

Girls Soccer, Boys Basketball, and Basketball Cheer start their seasons this week.

Pink Out Night

Mark your calendars for our first home game and our annual PINK OUT game!  We will be collecting donations for The Reel Housewives of Topsail Island instead of a gate fee.  All money collected will be donated to this amazing local organization that supports local ladies who are diagnosed with breast cancer.  Make plans to come out and support our Hornets and a great cause!

Winter Sports Picture Day

Our winter sports pictures will be taken on Monday, November 9 for the following teams:

  • Boys Basketball

  • Girls Soccer

  • Basketball Cheer

Student-athletes should come prepared for pictures and bring any required uniforms or team items. We look forward to capturing our Patriots as they get ready for a great winter sports season!

School Improvement Team Meeting

Our next School Improvement Team (SIT)/Lighthouse Team meeting will be held on Tuesday,  November 10th at 3:15 p.m.

The SIT/Lighthouse Team is made up of staff members and parents/guardians who work together to review our school goals, discuss student needs, monitor progress, and help guide improvement efforts across Penderlea. The team also supports our Leader in Me work and helps ensure that our school improvement priorities stay focused on student success.

Additional SIT/Lighthouse Team meetings are scheduled throughout the year on November 10, December 1, January 12, February 2, March 2, April 6, and May 4, with each meeting beginning at 3:15 p.m.

Upcoming Health Screenings & Clinics

We have several upcoming health-related dates for Penderlea students and families:

  • November 17 – Vision Screenings: Students in 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades will participate in mass vision screenings. Additional forms and information will be sent home later this month.

  • November 18, 8:00–9:00 a.m. – Flu Vaccine Clinic: The Pender County Health Department will host a flu vaccine clinic at Penderlea. Families who would like their student to receive the vaccine should complete the appropriate consent form. Paper copies will also be available at the front desk.

Flu vaccine consent forms were originally requested by October 17, but because students were on break, families may have a little additional time to submit them. We encourage interested families to turn them in as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out via email at pls_info@pender.k12.nc.us or call the school at 910-285-2761.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Together, we will continue to make Penderlea the Place to Be!
