Across 7th grade, students are building knowledge, sharing ideas, and taking on new challenges. Here’s a look at some of the learning happening in classrooms.
Exploring Enlightenment Ideas
In their Enlightenment project, students created trading cards featuring two Enlightenment philosophers. The photos pictured here capture their work as they explore ideas from this period.

Connecting Literature to Adolescence
In 7th grade ELA, students are working in groups to create Google Slides presentations based on the CommonLit story Popularity. After organizing their ideas in a graphic organizer, they’re identifying literary devices such as extended metaphor and hyperbole and explaining how these devices connect to the experiences and challenges of adolescence.

Trying It in Math
A new math routine called “TryIt!” invites students to get out of their seats and work through a problem during the first lesson of a new skill. Instead of only working in their books while the teacher checks in, students try solving the problem—even when they’re unsure how to begin. Once everyone has had a chance to work, the class reviews the problem and celebrates both correct answers and the courage to face a challenge and productively struggle.
From exploring historical ideas to making literary connections and giving math problems a try, 7th graders are learning together and celebrating their efforts along the way.
