Good evening Penderlea Families,
Here are important information and updates for the week of October 26th through October 30th and beyond. Thank you for staying connected and involved.
October Awareness Month
October is an important month of awareness and prevention across Pender County Schools. Throughout the month, students will take part in activities focused on kindness, inclusion, healthy choices, and creating a safe and supportive school community.
This week, October 25–30, is Red Ribbon Week as we continue our Month of Awareness activities. Throughout the week, students and staff will focus on making healthy choices and staying drug-free.
Our daily themes are:
Monday, October 26: Wear RED
Tuesday, October 27: Healthy Choices — Wear activewear to represent taking care of your body and making healthy choices
Wednesday, October 28: Camo Day — “Gear Up for a Drug-Free Life!” Wear camo
Thursday, October 29: Sports Day — “Team Up for a Drug-Free Life!” Wear sports jerseys or team colors
Friday, October 30: “Dream Big, Stay Drug Free!” Wear pajamas — no bedroom shoes
We look forward to another great week of activities that encourage our students to make positive, healthy, and responsible choices.

Penderlea Fall Fundraiser
Our Candy Man Fall Fundraiser kicks off this week! The fundraiser will run from October 15 through November 3 and will help support Penderlea’s general school fund. These funds allow us to respond to school needs throughout the year and help provide additional supplies, support school events, and purchase other items that directly benefit our students, staff, and school community.
Fundraiser information will be coming home with students this week. We appreciate the support of our Hornet families and community as we work together to make this year’s fundraiser a success
Scholastic Book Fair Coming Soon!
Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Penderlea November 2–6!
Families can make shopping easier by setting up a Book Fair eWallet for their child. eWallet allows students to shop cash-free, worry-free, and independently, and family members or friends can also contribute funds to the account.
Create your child’s eWallet here:

We are excited to give our students another opportunity to discover new books and build their love of reading!
UNCW Water Safety Night
UNCW Yacht Club is hosting a Water Safety Night on Monday, October 26 from 6:00–7:00 p.m. in Cameron Hall 105.
The event is free and open to all and will feature water-safety information from The Qualified Captain, along with Nicole Woods, UNCW Women’s Basketball Coach and drowning survivor, who will share her personal experience.
Attendees can learn important habits for staying safe and secure on the water, and there will also be a raffle with prizes.
Families interested in attending can RSVP using the QR code on the flyer.

6th Grade ICU Career Day & Follow-Up Survey
Our 6th grade students will participate in the ICU In Your Future! field trip this week, where they will explore healthcare and public safety careers through hands-on activities and interactions with professionals.
Following the event, UNCSERVE, one of the event sponsors, would like students to complete a brief anonymous survey about their career interests, post-secondary plans, and reflections on the experience. Survey responses will be used only to help improve future events.

School Improvement Team Meeting

The SIT/Lighthouse Team is made up of staff members and parents/guardians who work together to review our school goals, discuss student needs, monitor progress, and help guide improvement efforts across Penderlea. The team also supports our Leader in Me work and helps ensure that our school improvement priorities stay focused on student success.
Additional SIT/Lighthouse Team meetings are scheduled throughout the year on November 10, December 1, January 12, February 2, March 2, April 6, and May 4, with each meeting beginning at 3:15 p.m.

This Week in Hornet Athletics:
Girls Soccer, Boys Basketball, and Basketball Cheer are set and are busy preparing for the season. This week is full of practices! Girls soccer families, also note the mandatory parent meeting on Tuesday at 4:30 pm and cheer families on Wednesday at 4:15 pm.

FCA Meeting
We will have FCA on Thursday after practices conclude. All middle school students are welcome to attend and if you are not currently practicing, you may stay after school with Ms. Lanier before FCA begins. Pickup will be promptly at 5:45 pm in the car lane.

Pink Out Night
Mark your calendars for our first home game and our annual PINK OUT game! We will be collecting donations for The Reel Housewives of Topsail Island instead of a gate fee. All money collected will be donated to this amazing local organization that supports local ladies who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Make plans to come out and support our Hornets and a great cause!
