Literacy: Letters, Sounds, and Early Writing

We have been learning the names and sounds of the lowercase letters a, b, c, d, e, f, g, i, j, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, and u. Knowing our letter names and sounds helps us become strong readers and writers!

We are also becoming sound detectives! We practice listening carefully to the sounds we hear in words. For example, when we hear the word cat, we can identify the first sound, /c/, and the ending sound, /t/. We are even working on listening for all the sounds in a word: /c/ /a/ /t/.

In our writing, we are learning to draw pictures and label them by listening for the sounds we hear in words. These early writing skills help us share our ideas and communicate what we know!

Wit & Wisdom: Farm Animals

Through our Wit & Wisdom curriculum, we have been exploring the world of farm animals! We are learning how to look closely at books, find evidence, and use information from what we read to build our understanding of these animals.

We are also practicing how to use details from our learning in our own drawings and writing. By drawing, labeling, and sharing our ideas, we are learning to show what we know and support our thinking with information from books.

Math: Counting, Numbers, and Shapes

In math, we have been practicing counting and writing numbers from 0–10. We are building number recognition skills and learning to connect numbers with quantities.Kindergarten

Our current focus is shapes! We have been identifying and exploring circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, and hexagons. We are learning to notice each shape’s features, including its sides and corners, and to recognize shapes in the world around us.Kindergarten

You can support your mathematician at home by counting everyday objects together and looking for different shapes in your home, at the store, or while you are out and about!KindergartenKindergarten

Social-Emotional Learning: Growing Leaders

In kindergarten, learning is about more than academics. We are also learning how to become responsible, thoughtful, and caring leaders through our Leader in Me lessons.

We are practicing how to be proactive by stopping, thinking, and making a good choice. We are learning that our choices matter, that we can take responsibility for our actions, and that we can work together respectfully.

Every day, we are building skills that help us become better friends, classmates, problem-solvers, and leaders!

Looking Ahead

We are having so much fun learning and growing together! We are proud of the progress our kindergarteners are making, and this is only the beginning. There is still so much to discover, explore, and learn!

Thank you for supporting your child's learning at home and for being such an important part of our kindergarten community. Together, we are building a strong foundation for a wonderful year of learning!
